Puyallup is overran with coyotes
« on: May 11, 2016, 08:39:07 AM »
Puyallup is the only place where I have seen a coyote walking around during the daytime. It was scouting a burb as if it owned the place.

Part of the problem is that the area gets a lot of rabbits. I once saw a dozen rabbits scatter when I pulled onto a street. We really need more predator hunters in that area.

My in-laws have a place that overlooks the Orting valley and is near a spring. PM if you want to join me for some bow hunting this summer.

You should spend some time during the day in Federal Way...

Problem is I am pretty sure Puyallup has a no firearms discharge ordinance and is almost entirely private property.  So gotta figure out a way to setup and get in bow range, AND drop them in their tracks...  Game animals are not completely dumb, they know where they are safe.

I might be up for joining you, just have to see how scouting and prep for Sept Elk works out timewise.

2 years ago I had seen coyotes in Tacoma right off Steele St. & 112th just past 512 ramp.  I've got a buddy who just bought a house over by Woodbine Cemetery, near Puy Fair Grounds.  He hears coyotes yipping every night behind his house in a little wooded area.  Myself I live just past 260th & Mtn Hwy close to a bunch of wetland so we've got tons of rabbits, greenheads, and coyotes everywhere.  Neighbor has even seen cougar in his driveway while getting mail.  Unfortunately from my understanding back in mid 2000's Pierce County banned firearm discharges even out here in the county.  They make up new laws and don't even tell ya until its too late.  :bash: The only reason I found out was because a guy out here owns 100acres was told he was no longer able to hunt his own land.... So he took it to court, not sure if he won or not.  :dunno:

I had a pack follow/chase me and my dog down the dyke along the Carbon River behind the sewage treatment plant a few years back yipping and barking at us. This was before I had my concealed permit or I would have dropped one or two. Also see them almost nightly down in the rail yard downtown Tacoma. I think they eat the grain that gets spilled

I live in University place above the Fred Meyers I have had my dog chase one down the Culd-A-Sac in the middle of the day. Also I have found there poop in the front yard. If people only new What runs around there area. I think its funny people freak out every year a bear or something comes through there neiborhood. I worked in PUYALLUP on a construction site there was a couple acre of woods next to us, baby coyotes in the spring time.

I've seen a few in my residential neighborhood, one during the day, and one at night with mange so bad it looked like a chupacabra.  On the bright side, it seems that the stray cat population is under control.

I can vouch for a very healthy population in the Graham area. Perfect area; plenty of woods/fields, no predators, easy food, and most places you can't shoot 'em. Same story in other similar areas, I'm sure.

Pierce County has authority over the areas in the unincorporated (not within city limits) areas. About 10-15 years ago they made a ton of no-shooting areas. However, over the past 2 years the county has started to rescind those thus allowing shooting again.

Speaking of this subject, on the news right now they are talking about Kirkland having bad coyote problems attacking pets and acting aggressive towards children. Wait till the wolves come!!!

There is a lady that builds cat shelters for the feral cats in Puyallup along the Riverfront Trail. Theres about 7-10 of them, and every single day she walks into the downtown Fred Meyer and buys a case of wet food and places food at each of the shelters. She's feeding about 15 cats down there, and leaving wet food out every day. I've seen quite a few coyotes there stalking her cats. I told her last week that she is attracting coyotes and she couldn't seem to grasp the fact that her hobby is related to the coyote population behind a grocery store downtown.
