Fishing on kauai

Hey Guys,
Have a trip to Kauai planned for the week of labor day and got the ok for a deep sea fishing trip. Wanted suggestions for a half day trip. Much appreciated all! Who to go with, best species to target or best experience?

Thanks 257 was looking at both. Not sure if the wife would be up for the full day trip as it takes away from beach time, but this would be my first time focused on deep sea fishing! Looking forward to a great trip on the sea!

No problem. We did a half day in Maui , dude told us when we were done to do a full day if we do it again, as they cover way more ground and the lines are wet a lot longer. They're fun, have a good time and report back when you come home. Later

Great beach at the best bonefish spot on Kauai.  Do it yourself, save some money, please the wife and get a chance at double digit bones.  Lots of turtles there too.  Spin or fly.  Patience is a virtue.  You will probably see fish if you get your eyes adjusted.  Catching them is a whole different subject.

3 years ago I went out with Kai Bear Sportfishing.  Had a great time and saw some whales.  We caught a couple mahi, some jacks and a tuna.  Great crew and fun trip.  Two things I would mention, the water  is rougher than crap around Kauai.  Nothing to protect you.  If your prone to seasickness, prep before you go.  The other is that on most Hawaii deep sea trips, you don't own the fish.  The crew sells them to local eateries and markets to keep prices down.  Some will let you have or purchase some of you catch.  Ask first.  Of course what would you do with a 250 lb tuna anyway.

Ocean fishing in hawaii require NO licence! While I would love a deep sea trip if the wallet or wife isnt game  buy a pole at walmart and rent a kayak for a couple of days! Kauai is my favorite island to go to. Make sure to get some kauai spiced rum and a cigar! I have always stayed in the PoiPu area but the whole island is pretty chill. The other thing to pick up is a wrist rocket for all the chickens on the island. Marbles dont quite cut it for ammo btw..  its a great island to rend a jeep and acess the beach on the south end that requires it...

Also slip some fins on and poke a few fish, my favorite thing to do by far.  Still haven't gotten an ulua (giant trevally) but one of these days......
You gotta have game to poke an ulua,  they're a freaking battering ram. They've killed sharks.

Still there's a ton of tasty fish easier to get too.

I went with Lahela Sportfishing a couple years ago in August. We ended up with 4 ono and a blue marlin. I think it cost around $140 plus tip on a sharedtrip.  We were fairly close to land the whole time which meant more fishing time. He did offer a filet to anybody who wanted to take one.

Take some boots, and hiking sticks as well there is some great hiking on the garden isle.  I think the hikes, and snorkeling tunnels beach are two of my favorite things to do in Kauai.

I've done a big water guided trip as well as an inland trip bass fishing up one of the rivers...both were fun, but the inland trip was way cooler. There are some really good smallmouth on that usland as well as peacock bass in the rivers. I've been to that island a couples of times and always pack some gear. Salt water fishing is free and there is tons of access.
