Congrats on drawing!  But (yes a but) this unit is nowhere near worth 14 points!  You can draw Arizona easier than you can this unit and others due to point creep.  I have 5 points now and will most likely not draw for another decade.  It should also have as many bull permits for archery as peaches and observatory.

GL to those that got drawn, let's hope that fire season is favorable this year. I'd suggest taking fire risk into account when scouting considering what happened last year up there. I hope to have a few focus areas scattered broadly throughout the huntable area just in case.

A fire would be a great thing for habitat in the long run! A lot of the area (especially the wilderness) is so thick that no food sources are left! It'd be great to see a few fires be managed for habitat instead of suppressing all of them!

The fire last year did great things in making habitat even though it was caused by a human.

I don't know that unit, so I can't comment in particular, but the eastside GMUs do have the advantage of fires.  I agree with you, forest fires can really improve habitat.  The westside suffers from this---because the forest circus no longer logs in much of the Olympic forest, and because no fires can survive there, and now because they are planning to dig up the fire roads, the forest has become almost unhuntable.  It is ironic, but I envy those who hunt the fire-prone eastside.

pd, the bumping unit never burns. When there is fires, the "officials" say suppress them all due to politics. We don't get the big fires like up north does.  Next time you drive over Chinook Pass, you will see the loss of habitat I am taliking about. Maybe one day something will go big and it will be very beneficial to elk hunting when it does.

Not disputing that, just pointing out that a big chunk of the area was shut down during the archery season last year. So I plan to account for that risk in my scouting.
