I'm likely wrong (getting old) but I seem to remember that those with incentive tags could hunt only with the weapon of the season that was open. :dunno:

Of course there are times when nothing is open and the incentive tag holder could use any weapon of choice, but I've been under the impression that the incentive tag holder could hunt during archery season elk, but would have to use archery gear, same with muzzy season, not quite the same as the raffle/auction tags, same with deer, am I mistaken? :dunno:

No, you got it right, huntnphool.

Best time to hunt elk would be between archery and early muzzleloader.

Can't go wrong with either choice! I would take the elk tag!  :twocents:

I'd go with deer as well. Many areas are open to branch antler Bulls on the west side general. Either way, I hope you post your success story here for us all and good luck

Can you hunt elk in the Kapowsin Tree Farm if you have a Hancock permit? If so, I would go elk and go kill a monster westside bull. If not then I would go chase big muleys around in November.

Still really torn on what choice to make. Leaning elk in the mudflow or white river but love the idea of chasing bucks in the Entiat and Desert units. Really a tough choice to make.

I say do a search on here for the Entiat deer and look at some of the bucks. I love big Bulls but I would also go kill a giant buck.

Found out today it was my 15 year old son that drew this permit. I am more than excited for him. Looks like we will be chasing bulls sep1 with his rifle or bow. Can't wait!!

Be sure to read the rules that go along with it, I believe you have to use the weapon of the time for the unit you are in, there are very few rifle hunts in Sept.

Congrats to your son, you two have a blast!  The following is just for fun ....

I say get a disabled hunter permit and take the elk incentive permit.  September 1 drive over to Ellensburg, get the WDFW employee directory, and just call and record until you get someone to say yes you can kill a branched bull on the Colockum from your truck with those permits.  Roadhunt a big bull before the seasons, and if anyone gives you guff tell them those permits make it your U&A area and you are exercising your rights.
As long as we have the habitat, we can argue forever about who gets to kill what and when.  No habitat = no game.
