Big and tall supplies
« on: February 04, 2009, 11:52:05 AM »
OK, did some searching and didn't find anything so…

I am 6'8, about 430 lbs and wear a size 18 shoe. I'm looking for supplies that I'll probably buy soon as (hopefully) things go on sale. But I have some questions since my options are VERY limited.

* How important is pattern for jackets and pants? If they don't match, is that OK?
* Boot selection is SUPER limited and nobody carries them in an actual store for me to try on. Are Bogs an OK general boot or are they mostly for the sand/river?
* What should my priorities be?
* Any places you suggest besides bigcamo.com? It's the only place I've found…

Thanks!

"* How important is pattern for jackets and pants? If they don't match, is that OK?"  Not important at all.

Wow, your a bigun'!  I am on the large side too and sometimes find stuff hard to find aswell. If you are a large, lots of guys by xl so it fits roomy. The xl's buy the 2xl stuff.... and so on. Really screws over the 3xl guys...

Screw all you M's and L's!!!!!   :chuckle:

Our stuff is harder to find and more expensive.

Hawksfan,  your priorities should be what you can afford, and what is comfortable, in my opinion. Think about it...still lots of guys shooting deer in blue jeans and t shirts....

For general hunting, look for a thin drab colored or camo overjacket that can conceal anything you wear beneath. Goretex or any of the fancy Under armour type things are really nice but not necessary, especially for a new sportsman. I would spend my money on happy feet, and warmth. A good quiet outer layer in something soft and quiet. For rifle hunting, you will need a quiet orange vest.

Let us know what you intend to go after, we can help steer a bit if you need.

Welcome.

I think I'm intimidated by all the super hunters I see out there. The stuff at bigcamo.com looks like it's going to be the way to go. I think that my main concern is boots. When I buy outerwear, I'll need to buy more general-purpose stuff such as water-proof and wind-proof.

Big decisions.

@iceman What I'm going after is TBD. I currently only own a 16ga and a .22, so I'd love to get into birds. But I've never been before and really have clue what I'm doing  :dunno:

But, I'm here to learn and hopefully get out there.

Well, like some have said, hang out a while and study up. I learn new stuff each day...  You should have no problem hooking up with someone for some outdoor fun. Good attitude.

I grew up in southern California. I haven't checked Cabela's yet. Might be a good excuse to head down there sometime  :IBCOOL:
