Elk hunting
« on: October 02, 2007, 08:05:52 AM »
I posted this in the wrong spot yesterday

Hello just found this site looks like a bunch of great guys. Hope to see some of you out hunting.

Anyone else AHE hunt in the Wenas?  This is my first year hunting as a AHE. We have looked at some area in ellensburg coleman, cook, and schnybly canyon Good looking area and the elk are definatly there. I grew up in selah and am farmilliar with the area and know a few landowners and have permission to hunt their land. The only place I have seen elk below the fence is on south wenas just before longmire out in the alfalfa and that was only once three years ago.  Anyways just wondering if you know any good spots to try that you are willing to share.

the wenas isnt very good unless you know some landowners, theres a few below the fence but the timing about has to be perfect to get one.

There isn't much of a local herd in the wenas area. It's mostly migrating elk that you will find there after the weather pushes them down. There are some local elk but very few and the area seems to get a lot of pressure as well. If the weather comes at the right time you will see lots of animals, but like krikl said timimg has to be perfect.

I hope there are some elk in the wenas.

Just got permission to hunt over 2000 acres of private property from two landowners side by side in the wenas. Both said they see elk every year in december and january and neither have been asked by another hunter to hunt their land. One of the owners said there are a couple nice bucks we can hunt also and he told us he ownes about 350 acers in tieton just below the elk fence we can hunt and that the elk are always in there eating in his wheat field later in the year. Going to scout the land this weekend.  :IBCOOL:

I have one spot out in the wenas but its a December-january hunt like letshunt said.  Wait till the weather pushes them in or they bust through the fences after the hunters chase them through. Once they get in there they just kinda roam around from field to field.

I managed to have a herd go through my lawn this winter aobut Christmas time, but they must have gotten back in through one of those elk corner things.

I saw a few of those elk corner thingys myself do the elk actually use those things. I've seen them go through the fence before without much effort. But the one way gate looks like they would avoid it
