Ebay deal gone bad.....or not?
« on: August 04, 2016, 09:45:52 AM »
So I bid and won on a deal that was labeled as a demo model Pentax Lightseeker XL 3-9x40 ballistic reticle scope. I won the bid at $177. So these are outstanding well built scopes, if anyone knows about the older Burris scopes made in Colorado then you know these scopes are even better. Retail new they were around $500! So I am like sweet, it arrives yesterday, I open it up and the guy shipped me the the Pentax Lightseeker XL......BUT.....it is a 4-16x44 with the Ballistic reticle!! Not the scope he advertised and it was mounted as it has slight ring marks on the rear of the barrel! So at first I am like mad, now I have to deal with him and Ebay and ship it back and so forth..........then as I look over the scope, I am like, well lets try and mount it with the rings I have on the .243 and lets see if it fits, sure enough it fits the barrel contour with a few millimeters to spare!! So it looks great! It is a tank though, this scope is 23 ounces! However, when I look it up they sold for $589 bucks new! The glass is perfect and the scope fits, the rings were fine, its a tad heavy....so whining is over...I think I shall keep it!

Everything happens for a reason, glad it worked out.
Pain is temporary, achieving the goal is worth it.

I didn't say it would be easy, I said it would be worth it.

Sounds like a great deal to me.  The larger-than-advertised magnification is something that you may actually find that you prefer after you get used to it.

Concerning the ring marks - of course there were ring marks on the barrel - it was a demo!  It'd be pretty hard to demonstrate how a scope works without mounting it to something.

Congrats!

I think I will like it just fine in the end!!

Every where I have been to look at scopes they simply place the scope in a wood stock with a rubber set of rings attached to the top. I have never seen a place sell scopes that are actually mounted in rings? How could you then sell it as new? When he advertised it as a demo I guess this was what I was picturing.

You wouldn't sell it as new.  You would sell it as a demo.....which is exactly what he did.
