I kill a handful a year but I guess I need to start targeting them. I eat them and they taste fine if prepared right. I jurist do mine like any duck.

There aren't many where I hunt but I've thrown the occasional coot in the pepperoni mix without noticing a difference.

Go try to nab a limit, mich harder then it seems jt would be. They don't eat bad, I soak em a day longer then mallars, and use them in duck chili or curry. Something that has a lot of spices, I think they are the best for that.

Scott Leyseth had a show called "Dead Meat" where he would hunt and then cook some of the things we wouldn't really eat. Stuff like Nutria and Coot. As I remember, everyone he served it to liked it.

I always run across a gigantic flock of them on the water when I go fishing. probably close to 100 in the flock on the water... it'd be easy easy pickings.

So do you just swat them on the water?  When they swim into the decoys and I jump up and yell at them to flush them they just swim off.  Tried jump shooting them from the canoe but they just swim ahead of it or sneak off into the brush.

We used to fry the breast filets in oil like a steak, decent eating and if you are a gizzard lover... BONANZA, the largest gizzard for body size of any waterfowl.  I have only ever seen a few when hunting the westside and none out here in the islands.
