Will spooked bear return?
« on: August 12, 2016, 03:04:49 PM »
Hey guys, I was out this morning and spooked a bear out of some great huckleberry.   How long should I wait for him to return?  Think it's safe to go Sunday?

Its hard to say. Is there lots of bear sign in there or did you happen to bump it in an area with not sign. With lots of sign and without pressure this weekend I think Sunday or Monday would be safe. If there are people in there this weekend... I would probably wait until next Wednesday, Thursday.

Decent sized bear?

Not huge but kill able.

There was bear poop every 10ft.  He's definitely in his residence.  I'm thinking next Sunday?

Here's a trail cam pic of the same bear.  Like I said.  Not a real big one.

If the area is fairly unmolested, meaning not a lot of hunters, I'd wager a bet he is back in the huck patch right now.

Just my two cents from similar experiences.

Ive spooked a bear arcross a road once out of some accorn trees then cam back through the same spot an hour later and spooked him again. So its mostly matters how spooked or how hungry he is

Couple years ago I  was busted by  a bear and he took off into the timber. I left and glassed some other areas and decided to go back  over where I saw the bear earlier  and at this point  it was 3 to 4 hours later and there he was back in the berry patch. I made the stock on him and eventually took my bear. He is hungry for the food that is there, he's there now waiting for you .

:yeah:
I shot at one, and missed a 1/2 or so before dark. The first thing the next morning I shot him. I'd be there tomorrow morning and wait till he shows up.

If quality feed is plentiful, and there is crap every 10 feet, I'll bet you could have killed it that evening. Here is a pic of the one we got on the 4th.

I spooked a bear in Idaho eating a dead deer. We sat and waited about a half hour and he came back. I wanted to shoot him but couldn't figure out how with my fly rod.

I spooked a bear once, glassing from a landing with the gun in the pickup.. No shots fired and he just trotted into the timber. Next morning he was a few yards from where he was the morning prior and got lead some lead poisoning.

It will come back. Watched my father miss a bear around 8am one year, only to shoot the same bear he missed the following morning. Bear arn't to skidish unless it smelled you.
