West side bugles
« on: September 22, 2016, 02:55:28 PM »
Any West side archery hunters hearing any bugles? They were bugling at the beginning of Oct where I hunted on the west side last year. I haven't heard much for bugling this September while I've been scouting and camping.  :dunno: You guys hearing anything?

I scouted Tuesday and got a bull to answer.  I only tried in about 4 locations.  Most of my time was spent in the truck learning the road system, so I really wouldn't have heard a bugle anyway.

Heard about 4 different Bulls bugle Monday and Tuesday, they pretty much stopped around noon for me, but these guys were wussies, nether one of them would come in for a fight.  I'd bugle after getting in their circle, and they were gone. Hope they get meaner during muzzy!

Only heard three bugles all season. Slowest year for talking I've ever had. My partner and I both had shots and missed so cant complain too much.

Where I was at the bugling was just getting started the last two days.  Most of the elk weren't herded up yet just 2 or 3 together.  Should be rockin' come muzzleloader season.

Lots of bugling in the area I hunt. Its been easy to get em to sound off, getting them away from their cows is another story.

I was curious if it had picked up at the end also. I was in 560. We were packed in.  They weren't talking much so we didn't call to much.  Plenty of elk.  Multiple shot opportunities.  I even waited for an hour for a tree to bleed out after a 10'' shot. Not the most quiet year(that was when the fires were in the GPNF). If it weren't for closed roads and plenty of elk it would have been a tough hunt. Saw lots grouse, a beautiful 5 pt buck, and got the crap scared out of me by a 450# bear from 15' while chasing a 6 pt bull.  Shout out to Willie, an 18 year old bada$$ who was the only hunter I saw. And he was by himself and a long way from home if you know what I mean.

This ^^^^ had elk bugling everyday, even in the afternoon they would sound off once or twice giving me an idea of where I needed to be in the evening.

I took my dad down to 560 this year, our first year own there. never seen so many people in one area. talk about pressure. I was chasing around a huge 6x7 down off those roads past the ice caves to your right. the road was marked with a white paper plate. second day out there got him to show him self and about 4 cows. but there was a spike trying to run interference and it was pissing off the big bull. he was constantly running off that spike so getting in a shot was difficult.

On white pass we were only really able to get them to bugle first our of light.
