Any hancock kapowsin bucks?
« on: October 18, 2016, 11:15:48 AM »
I've spent 2 half days in there so far.  Seen maybe a dozen does.  Always watch the does as long as I can.  No bucks around yet.  Any day now.  Anybody else have any success in there?

Fun weekend, great weather for Blacktail hunting.  Did Bridge Gate on the opener, relatively quiet crowd wise for that place saw 16 does and another deer that I'm pretty certain was a buck but he jumped out of his bed and was gone...caught up with him again and he kept his head down and never got a positive ID.  Did Main gate on Sunday, busier crowd wise but I walked half the day without seeing another human.  Saw 12 does, a bobcat and a longhorn spike which I shot.  Actually thought he was a forkie but when I got up to him he was just a big spike...was actually very thankful for the spike rule, I don't like killing small bucks as a rule but a lot of times with blacktail you don't have much time to count points, its a quick decision.   Smallest Kapowsin buck Ive shot out of 6, but I'm happy, can focus on getting my son on a buck now.  Going to miss the late hunt due to being in Montana, so I figured I better not be too picky this year.  Heard a half dozen shots opening morning, and maybe 3 on sunday.  Did I mention that it was just a little wet out there?  Best part of the season yet to come, should be fun I think they are going to be going strong in another week or ten days.

It's getting like Capital Forest up there, a lot of traffic driving around. There are deer but you are more likely to see them by getting off the beaten track working the clear cuts and alder thickets  (or hope one strays far enough out of the yards at Camp One).
There is no greater respect to have for wildlife than to harvest an animal fairly and use it's flesh to feed your family.  ~me

How's it been for everyone? One doe is all I saw this morning right at first shooting light. 4 hours of hard rain later nothing else

We jumped a huge buck last night right around 620pm on the way out...  My daughter tossed beef jerky to the back of the truck and was ready to run him down!!!  LOL..  One more in the grass on the side of the road and almost hit 2 does that made bad decisions right at the last second across the road..  Was slow this weekend and Monday.  I talked to Clyde a couple times, he said it's been slow as well.

Seen 3 does today. That rain was really coming down this morning not any tree was better than the next to hide under. Water proof gear isn't so water proof when you hunt in Washington haha

It's been slow...  Anyone have any luck this weekend?  We hunted bridge gate and not hearing many shots.  Been crashing the brush, but not jumping/seeing much

Nice buck, I was out all weekend and didn't see much at all.  Halloween was a joke of a day . If it wasn't for the elk draw in there, I would not buy that pass again.

Nice buck bigbull!!!  We just couldn't seem to find any of those.  Spent a lot of time walking the escapement areas too.  Did you find him in timber or clear cut??
