you know if you guys keep this thread going about killing great deer without the use of the latest scent-free camoflauge rain proof clothing the Russian hackers at the direction of the big box sporting goods retailers are gonna shut this thing down and produce wiki-leaks e-mails of everyone that supports spending $500 on a jacket/pants combo to even see a deer...God knows how we ever survived without them

I guess I'm kind of old fashioned. Or just old! I still prefer wool, but it was to warm for them that day. I was just sitting so wasn't worried about my jeans making any noise. The new gear has its place, but surely isn't required to kill dear.

Great bucks! Did you scout that place before season or has it been a known rut area for bucks in previous years?

Can you give a little explanation of what the area is like? You mentioned a thick alser area with a creek. Is it adjacent to cuts, reprod or timber? If it's a rut area what do you think brings the bucks into that area year after year?

It's an area I've been hunting for the last few years. It holds lots of deer at all times, plus there are lots of deer in the surrounding area. I see bucks in and around there all the time. I have never seen the big 3x2 or the one I shot, but I have seen bucks the size of mine in that general area.

It was logged off about 6 years ago and is completely over grown with Alder and Blackberry bushes. Along the creek there was a set back for stream protection and that is big Maple and Doug Firs. The particular area I'm hunting is surrounded by farms and undeveloped private land. Just perfect Blacktail deer habitat. It's thick, lots of food, secluded in the sense that they can easily hide. I scout through there and the surrounding area a lot. When I hunt it, I know right where I'm going so I just ease in and sit down. And that's it. Sometimes I see them, sometimes I don't. But I know there are big bucks there. Makes it easier to sit still.

I shot this one year before last, a quarter mile away from this years in the same habitat. He was rubbing on an Alder in a jungle. I was moving in to sit and spooked him. Waited a bit, then circled around. He was looking where he thought I was!
