Looking to get a open sights new rifle. Not sure if these are even made anymore. So those that hunt with these, please tell why you like them.

My girlfriend hunts deer with a model 94 Winchester 30-30 with open sights.. She likes it because its really nice and light to carry around all day. She is pretty good shot with it as well but uses a scoped rifle for elk for the added range/power. Most of the deer we see are less than 100 yards out so..

I like open sights. Quick and failproof in the brush and rain. Ruger makes some decent ones in their scout and guide lines. Other manufacturers only really offer them in blued. Otherwise levers are a good choice.

I just started shooting irons again after being away for 30 years.
A rear aperture really makes a big difference.
CZ and Tikka make irons.

I was going to hunt deer with an open sighted rifle this year but I never got around to developing a load for it. Maybe next year...

I use a Henry 45-70 with iron sights for when I brush hunt or walk overgrown spur roads its lighter than my scoped rifle and easy to aquire a target in the trees and not losing it in the scope. For the clear-cuts I use my winchester 3006 with a scope because I'm good with my lever but not 400 yards good

1895 gbl with peep sight for me, use it when hunting brushy areas that a scope isn't needed. Also run a peep on my muzzle loader, up to 150ish yards I'm comfortable with both.

I do during smoke pole season. If I was to get one on a rifle, it would absolutely have a ghost ring in the back.

Got an old Rem 760 30-06 with original buckhorn sights. Super fast target acquistion, quick follow-up shots without removing hand from grip. Great dark woods rifle.

I put a scope on my 30 06 my Great Grandfather gave me. It's no longer my go to rifle, but still a good old rifle. I'm going to pull the scope off and have it as an open sight option. I actually killed more nice deer with the open sights, probably because I hunted thicker cover

They're as fail proof as you can get, field of view is great, and target acquisition is second only to a red dot.

I have a bolt gun with them now, but have not hunted it yet. If you are looking for a new gun, the Savage scout and hog hunter would be nice options and available in multiple calibers.
Can't beat irons for quick acquisition and dependability if you are hunting <100yrds.
