From what I have seen of them... I wouldn't give you a six pack of beer and a roll of duct tape for one.

No reason why a pump should have to be clean and dry. My supernova has been covered in ice and sand. Never had a single issue. Go supernova!

Heard of lots of problems with the newer production 870s which sucks because the old guns were amazing.  I will never get rid of mine......but it is 30 years old.  I would look at getting a benelli.

 :yeah:

I bought my 870 at coast to coast for $189 bucks in the early 80s
great gun !

too bad 4 U

Could it be that the chamber is not bored to the correct length listed on the barrel? Kinda looks like that in the second pic  :dunno:

Had the same shooting 3-1/2" shells. Chamber was rough. Took a chamber brush in a drill with 00 steel wool and gun oil. Polished chamber and where rim of shell sits in barrel. Machine marks left from factory was crabbing the rim after firing do to expansion. Also changed out magazine follower to an aluminum one and the away the plastic factory one. It solve the problem.
I have done something very similar on ALL my shotguns. I take a scotch Brite pad and cut it so that a step will go in my shot gun patch Rod. Usually 3/4"x3" or so. I ad some atf to the pad and insert it to the barrel and chamber chuck it up on my eletric drill and honestly the piss out of it. Works great for debugging and polishing. Had made all my guns shoot better.

Irony alert!!!!!

I stated earlier that all three of my boys shoot 870 Ultramags with no issues.   That was true.......   until this morning's hunt

My son jammed ealr in the hunt and I can't unjam it for anything.

I can't get the barrel off because you need it mid-pump to sliode the barrel off and it is jammed closed on an empty.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

:) I have two 870's, neither are Express models, both are SPS 3.5 inch models. Flawless since new 100's of rounds and rough use. Have an old 870 Wingmaster Flawless for 35 years.

Do you use lube on the choke tube threads? If you don't remove choke once in a while and clean threads plus lube them before but installation of choke tube they will get stuck. It is part of cleaning that you should do. More time then once I had to re tighten choke tube between a few shots.
Nothing like a Remington model 700xcr.

UPDATE:

I found a very good youtube video that showed the problem and how to correct it.

It seems that machining marks left in the breech is a common culprit for jams in these 870s   (seems like simple quality control failure at Remington to me, but......)

Anyway, I machined all of ours dwon and polished them.          Much much smoother.

Going goose hunting in the AM.  I'm thinknking my son's 870 won't jam anymore (pleeeeeeeeeze).

To the OP, I like that Nova......
