You are doing a disservice to years of strict breeding by doing this, breeders litteraly working for years to keep a breed a certain way and now you want to make a mix breed?. They are not in demand and from what I have seen the results are usually far from good.

So what happens when these dogs do not sell or worse off that you can not even give them away?

They will sell. I bred some wpg x gwp. Great dogs! You probably won't get the premium price they get for griffons but so be it. Heck mutts will sell like hotcakes for $300. How is it doing the breed a desservice? It's not like the wpg x gsp pups will be sold as a papered gsp or wpg? I think it would be a good mix. Less likely to have health issues as well.

Well if your going to do it why use junk like a small gene pool griffon, most I've seen werent fit to feed. Be better off to use a pointer, at least those still have strong skillset that would pass on. Heck you may even double up on some of it. Plenty of Gsp/Ep crossed dogs out there that ARE registered........

Less likely to have health issues? This is where you are wrong. When bred properly breeds like gsp do not have issues with health unlike labs that have been so inbred due to backyard breeders and breedings like stated above. I have seen so many people buying a cross breed expecting it to hunt and it ends up being worthless.

Cross breed pups selling like hot cakes for $300  there's a reason a pure bred gsp will cost you around $900 or atleast getting one from someone that is a actually breeder and not some backyard breeder that calls themselves a breeder.

Love all the shorthairs I've been around, maybe a dozen in my life. All but one has hunted. None have cost more than 400. I'd send my chihuahua after birds before I paid 900 for a shorthair. I also shoot big game animals with a 300 dollar rifle. Breed them how you want. Just might out hunt a papered shorthair :twocents:

I guarantee you have not hunted behind a fully finished pointing dog, you would have a different opinion if you had hunted behind one.

Outside of the simple answer, your dog and you can do what you'd like with it...Why?
There are only two types of dogs: wolves and wirehaireds.

If someone wants a mutt there are plenty at the pound. Why would you make more on purpose?

I'll put my 800 dollar wirehair against your chihuahua any day of the week.  Spend what you want on dogs, but that statement is silly.

An extra 4-500 amortized over 10-12 years is insignificant.  Good bloodlines are not.

Well I can see the designer aspect, heck I tried to GIVE away setter pups I had from field tested winning parents and couldn't get them gone. Be full well prepared to feed the ones that don't go elsewhere. I had 9, sold 2, gave 3 away and still have 4 left. They are 5. I know a guy who just shoots his leftovers.

Don't  gwp's have wpg, gsp, pudelpointer and ??? In their  lineage?

Know of couple litters recently of cross breed dogs that were unintended and for about $300 they sold in a hurry. You cant give them away but if you price them higher they sale :dunno:

If both parents come from hunting stock, probably a good chance of getting some good pups. It's not like you're mixing a wiemeraner with a cocker spaniel.
