SW Access fees doubling again ?? Rumors....
« on: January 02, 2017, 09:02:10 PM »
Hunting in the Margaret/Winston is improving with the reduced number of hunters buying access permits - tho lots of limpers still.  Heard Rumor that fees are going up to $600 this year.    Might make hunting really good in a year or two  :sry:

Just keep paying thier fees, they'll just keep raising them.  :twocents:

Really!!!!  Wait, this is all about garbage dumping.

It is way past time to treat these pay-to-play companies as any other recreation business.
Same property tax
Same disabled access rules.
Same health regulations.
Same sales tax.
Same lodging tax

For some reason these companies believe they are exempt from all this.

maybe if they played by the same rules as other businesses they would re-think this whole idea.  As it is now, the fees are just gravy on top of timberland.  If anyone else charged the public to access their land for any purpose, at a MINIMUM they would have to pay all taxes, and provide a wheelchair access and a porta-potty.

As long as they keep paying off both sides of the aisle with campaign contributions and hunters keep buying their permits, they'll keep giving it to us in the rear end. I see no end in sight without some extreme measures taken. It needs groundswell and we need to start posting the amounts of contributions to those politicians who won't do anything about it.

Rates are doubling and you think this is beating a dead horse? You must be very well off.  :dunno:

The fees are not doubling for St.Helens permit.
And according to the Weyerhaeuser employee that I see weekly, and is aware of the process, says the number of permits and cost will be the same as 2016.

Not great, but worth the money. At least in my opinion,
Although they could add a couple more security guys to assist with some of the guys who think they can do anything they want since they paid.

No company in their right mind would announce a fee increase until AFTER the legislative session (March?)

Not sure what a few increase on Weyco land has to do with the leg session.  :dunno:

One of the tree farms I used to go to before permits was playing around with access fee hikes each year and I think last year may have lost money compared to if they had left it they way it was previously.  Rayonier did two things--they made a permit for Jan 1 until hunting season so the fisherman, shed hunters and mushroom pickers could have access, then after hunting season started only the hunting permit was allowed.  They raised the price of the hunting permit, think in one area it started at $180 the first year and good for the year, and climbed to $270 for hunting season plus $100 for the non-hunting season permit in case you wanted to scout earlier in the year.  Last year they had a lot of unsold permits.
