So one guy makes a mistake and then it is automatically the EPA's fault.  That's like blaming Colt for someone using their rifle to shoot up a mall.

Colt was not overseeing the activity, this incompetent boob was directly in charge.  Big difference.

So the EPA told him to do this.  Not what I read.  I read it as a guy who made a mistake and the EPA paid over $4 million to rectify situation.  Should guy lose his job maybe but we are all only human and mistakes are made.  It doesn't sound like it was made in malice so clean it up and move on.

My recollection is that this was a direct result of EPA direction and coercion when the contractor said it was a bad idea. There was also (conspiracy) theory that this was on purpose by EPA, for what reason I don't know.

The epa guy did this while the boss was on vacation and was under instruction not to breach the mine. Additionally the contractor said it was a bad idea.

Put the Govt official in the place of my cousin's neighbor who shot a grizzly bear under his front porch.  He lost his butt in legal fees and had fines on top.   I have no sympathy, in fact I have a preferential option for the highly trained, and paid govt official facing financial and personal ruin.

ST was basically agreeing with you. Don't get so worked up that you don't read responses for understanding. I sometimes make the same mistake when I'm passionate about a subject and have to make a concerted effort to stop and comprehend. I would suggest to you that there are far more people on this website who agree with your stance on most issues than those who don't. JD, I don't know you from Adam. But I will tell you that sometimes, it's hard to see your message through the histrionics and rhetoric.
