Son and I spent an entire morning bugling back and forth with three bulls who were just 200 yards on the wrong side of the unit border in Idaho.  Couldn't call em or move em over.    They weren't 500 yards from the truck.

Everyone who hunts in Idaho has a ATV it seems, and even if the road is gated or considered closed someone will eventually drive around the gate.

Happens all the time in Wa as well. I have plenty of film of illegal atv riders/hunters during the hunting season.

Lots of gated roads in Idaho allow tag use on them.

Every road I walked in Weiser River zone that was listed as closed for winter by USFS maps had ATV tracks on them.

I've never hunted the weiser zone but in the handle it's common for roads to be gated adnatv use is perfectly fine. Unless it's posted otherwise

The Weiser Unit we hunted had motor vehicle restrictions(in other words "closed to all motor vehicle use") on the roads where we encountered ATV and motorcycle use.  Just saying

Just a heads up, the Idaho fish and game issued a warning yesterday of estimated 80% winterkill or higher in a list of units. I imagine that was more for deer than elk, but it doesn't go without saying a bad winter is a bad winter and will effect all.   Im sure you can google it.

Just did a quick search for it and did not come up with anything current. I found on the website from a few days ago where they initiated emergency feeding in the Southern portion of the state, but that the North Central and Central areas were experiencing normal winter conditions.
I hunt, therefore I am.... I fish, therefore I lie.

like I said I haven't ever hunted the weiser unit but was sharing my experience in other units... wasn't doubting any of the weiser info posted.

ATTENTION SPORTSMEN AND WOMEN OF IDAHO! Just got a call form the Fish and Game and they are expecting severe winter die off (UP TO 80%) of the fawns, in the Weiser, Gooding, Shoshone, Ketchum, areas... extreme winter conditions have forced the deer on to roads. The Game department has started emergency winter feeding in these areas. Please stay away and don't pressure the deer. Don't be that guy that thinks he is not effecting the deer. Let the game department do their job. Thank you!

^^^Is there a link to that statement from IDFG?
