Rum vs weatherby

Ok I need a list of pros and cons on the RUM in 300 vs the Weatherby in 300 wby mag.
I just can't figure out why the weatherby is $800 more, enlighten me.

Mostly with weatherby, you are buying the name and the history.  The RUM is a fine gun and shoots great for most people, the WTBY on the other hand has a little better components and has a very loyal following that has established it as a top notch gun for a long time.  Balistically they are so similar, that it doesn't really matter which ya go with.  I personally have a wtby, that I've had for 16 years and love it.

This is all just my opinion, witch is based off of owning, shooting, and reloading for both.
WBY. rifles are nicely finished and look good. The design of their stocks on the heavy kickers doesn't fit me right, on a fast offhand shot I'm going to get slapped in the cheek by the raised cheek piece.
The Rem. rifles aren't as nice to look at but are just as reliable.
The RUM ammo or brass if you reload is cheaper then the 300 WBY. The RUM case is larger so it holds more powder and will out run a 300 WBY, with ease, but not by a lot.
Rem 700 rifles have a lot more aftermarket parts available, that and the ease of working on them is why most gunsmiths prefer Rem's. A Lot of smiths dont even use WBY actions for builds.
On the internet boards, I've seen some WBY owners get pretty emotional when defending their WBY's. so I normally wont post on these subjects. I'm in no way saying Rem's are better then WBY's, just that I have both and prefer the Rem 700 and the 300 RUM over any of the WBY rifles chambered in 300 WBY.

I have both a 300 wby and also a 300 rem ultramag and load for both. They shoot almost the same groups but the rem has more recoil. I shoot 180 grain accubonds in the wby and 200 accubonds in the ultra mag. One feature I like in the rem. is you can unload it while the gun is on safety with the wby you have to drop the magazine or put it on fire to eject the shell. I use the wby for deer and the ultra mag for elk but either one are nice guns.

So if I decided to go with the remington do you think that the sendero is a good upgrade or just a waste. There are quite a few differences between them but is it noticeable with accuracy. Another thing is the sendero weighs a little more.

I had a 7stw sendero and it really shot but was a little heavy the wby I have is an accumark. The 300 ultramag really shoots it;s the one that is camo . If you reload try seating the bullets out so they just clear the magazine if you get a weaterby it seems to help accuracy. I liked the fluted barell on the sendero my accumark is fluted to they say it disipates the heat better but I don;t know that as a fact.

Actually, the WBY is cheaper to reload for than the RUM.  Remington brass at Cabelas for the RUM is 89.99.  Remington brass for the 300 WBY is $73.99.  Smaller charge in the WBY= less powder = less money, and the bullets/primers are a wash. 

Everything else I agree with.  Concerning actions, the Rem 700's are more common but I feel the WBY action are better.  They are just harder to come by and probably more expensive. Therefore the smiths probably prefer the 700 action.  Keeps the cost down. 

If you get a WBY accumark, you can get it with the brake.  You can use that at the range and extend your practice sessions, take it off in the field to hunt if you want. 

The RUM you might want to consider getting a brake on it if you want to do a lot of practice at the range.  If your not going to practice then you might as well get a 30-06.  The 30-06 will do everything under 300 yards that the RUM will do.  Beyond that you are reaching some people's limitations if you are a sight in and hunt hunter.

Either way, both are good guns.

I liked the fluted barell on the sendero my accumark is fluted to they say it disipates the heat better but I don;t know that as a fact.

I had a Rem 700 BDL SS in .300 win-mag, and after a three shot group, that barrel was pretty dang hot. After a three shot group in my Sendero .300RUM, it is just barely getting warm, which I'm sure is a combo of the flutes and the heavy barrel.

Jeremiah, I think like we talked about yesterday the Sendero will probably be a little more accurate than the XCR, but it comes with the extra weight. Both I'm sure will be well within what you're looking for as far as groups go. When I come out shooting next weekend we'll have to see how your pack handles the weight of my rifle too.

The reason I stay with remington is because they are built in the good ol usa. They are an american tradition. Weatherby does make a fine rifle.

I inherited a .300 Wby, and my best friend shoots a .300 RUM Sendero.  My Wby kicks like a mule, but I am told that if I restocked it with a Wby Alaskan stock it would make it more bearable (it is a 40 year old rifle).  If I do, and like it I may change my mind, but right now I would go with the Sendero in .300 RUM if it were me.  Keep in mind, my buddy is a big guy and the extra weight of the Sendero doesn't bother him, but it's heavy...

If you decide on a RUM, I wouldnt jump on a sendero until youve at least handeled a XCR and a BDL ss synth. You dont have to have a heavy bbled rifle to get a accurate rifle.

I like the 54 degree bolt throw on the weatherby rifles.
