Double rifles big bores!!!! Who has them
« on: February 20, 2017, 11:01:26 AM »
I have always had my heart set on a big double. I am working towards one now. I would love to know if any guys on here have them. 375 cal and up. I am looking at a few brands and would love to even test a couple out if someone has them and would share that experience. I have my dangerous game bolt gun in 458 lott. That will be my scoped rifle for extended ranges but want a heavy hitter open sight double for follow up and walk ups.

Let's see them or tell me what ya got  :IBCOOL:

I've been chipping away at my extras and guns I don't use and starting to get a little closer there is a few brands like sabatti that are pretty dang reasonable and my wholesalers stock them so I can get some good prices. I wont ever be able to do the super fancy rifles. Just a nice solid rifle to do some heavy work with.

I would like to have one of the reasonably priced doubles myself; .450 Nitro Express, .500/450 NE, .500 NE, .577 NE, or any of the other classic double calibers.  Field grade, dead reliable, etc.  For the money and with the choice of so many other superior calibers and action types, any double is hard to justify other than as a status symbol or historical novelty.  I'd still like to have one though :)

I drooled my way through the SCI show, some absolutely beautiful firearms there.  I think Rigby had close to $10 million in guns, H & H probably twice that, and just about any other maker you have ever read about. Holland & Holland had one of their .600 Nitros for $265,000, most expensive I saw without looking too close.

Any size 375 plus. I myself really like the 458 cals. My buddy a member on here has a 585 Humbolt express and we have been having a lot of fun with that.

That is myself as well. I am leaning towards the 450 NE. I also like the 577. I called and talked to the usa branch of sabatti and the guy was great and sounds like he will sell to me direct. So I can get some great deals. Check them out if you like I can hook you up with a good deal to!!!

They had a booth, only about $4 million in guns there😀  That was actually the first booth where I started trying to estimate an aggregate value per booth. Some beautiful older guns there, I like the older rifles that have seen a bit of use but are still in great shape. Wish the price tags dropped like on a used car, saw some very well used guns at other booths that were only 5-15% less than a new one😳

I know the resale value stays high on them. I saw a killer deal awhile ago on a 450 NE. It was probably a 15-20k gun but they had 5k on it. Was used but in great shape but I didn't have the coin for it.

Shooting that pistol would have to be like holding a stick of dynamite with the primer as the detonator.

I have a bunch of the old Double Gun Journal quarterlies, love to thumb through them on the regular.  I have a particular fondness for the workingman's double in classic english and metric cartridges.  Say, a non-engraved Merkel in 9.3x74R... That almost seems doable for a guy like me and I would have tons of fun hunting elk and deer with paper patched boolits...

Have a Ruger No1 in 9.3x74R that is a great shooter.
A 470NE double is edging its way to the top of my wish list for an African hunt.

This has been my screen saver for some time to get me motivated.
