Looking to buy a new Toyota Tacoma
« on: March 18, 2017, 04:47:55 PM »
Looking to buy a new Tacoma Double cab 4X4.  Anyone bought one recently?   Anyone work for a dealer?   I talked to my local dealer and doesn't seem to be much room for price negotiating.  And not much to pick from.  Looking for a Silver or white.  SR5.    Not to interested in TRD options.     Thanks

Brant

 :yeah:

I have a 2010 TRD, when i started waiving money for a chunk down, that got them to move some. I really wanted a manual at the time and that did limit me on color choices. Thankfully i got white which was my second choice.

I have window shopped recently after looking at a co workers new SR5. His experience was similar to what you describe, not alot of room to negotiate. He did buy the new sand color so he thinks that was a disadvantage in overall price. From window shopping and feedback I gather if you put a decent amount down, or pay cash you can get better deals, Or if you have a desirable toyota to trade they seem to be more willing to play "the game". Just my 2, have fun and enjoy. I have enjoyed mine alot.

Maybe try car guru search 500 mile radius.  It should give you an idea of price on new.  Search engine lets you pick your options.

I'm pretty sure the stealership makes profit on the financing end.

Dealerships do make money on the backend. Less profit in new ones. Usually can't do much better than a Costco program if you are a member.  I bought my FJ from Magic in Edmonds. 500 up from invoice was splitting the diff between invoice and msrp. Yeah, they still get a few hundred in holdback and thats fine by me.

I wouldn't be against purchasing a used one if I could save some money and get one with extremely low miles.   I'm driving a 2006 silver 4Runner now that is in really nice shape.
the dealers I have been in to really want a trade in with that rig.  One dealership we were in,  had people come in while we were talking to the salesman wanting a price on it.  We are going to keep it though.  I know they probably make way more profit on your trade in than they do on the new sale.

If they can buy it right for sure. Little profit in new cars, more gross in used.

I bought a new one in 2013 and they came down $6,000 off the sticker price.

Often some great incentives on new. For Toyota,  with what you are looking at, Id look for incentives and a bit of a deal on a new before used or certified.

I have been looking at them my self. Either a Tacoma or 4runner. got consumer report car edition the other day, the 4runners are all rated well, they never went to the 3.5 motor. Tacoma went to the 3.5 in 2016 and the 2016 and 17 are both rated poorly. :dunno: under "reliability" they were rated "much worse than average".   Other places I have read good reviews on the 16/17's.?

I put 170k on a 2006. Another 100k on a 2007. I recently drove a 2016 and hated it compared to my old ones. I wouldn't buy a newer one. The switch to the smaller motor really sucked butt. I promise if you find a low miles 2007 or older you will love the power versus the newer models. I couldn't believe the difference. The new toys compared to the older ones really sucks.

The new ones have really bad visibility over the hood too. You sit so low and the damn hood and nose is so elongated it is weird driving in tight spaces. They put a bigger hood lump which makes it worse than the old fake hood scoop which was equally stupid.

300,000 miles on a 2006 and a 2007. Add on, I put 150,000 on my 1985 SR-5 regular cab short bed 22-RE... First year RE with solid axle.

Edit, 1984.5.... 22 RE... Bought it young in Yakima

Honestly, I'd go buy a 5.0 F-150 if I was looking. Toyota gas mileage doesn't make up for the newer trucks crappy power. That crappy power will also be noted by the loyal toyota folks who will typically pay a premium for a Toyota. They ain't gonna pay a premium for a recent quick chance toba *censored* motor.
