Coyotes this time of year

How many of you guys hunt coyotes this time of year,what sounds do you use?

I don't hunt them this time of year.  However, they are feeding pups.  Pup and prey distress will work best.  Kill the pups if you kill the mother.

Especially early in the morning....they make some noise.



Anyone know exactly or ballpark time that they stay in the den?  I'd guess only a month, two tops.

Lots of pup moving goes on in these parts, here today gone in the morning

6-8 weeks is about the average that I found.  It depends on the qualityof the den.  If it is secure they will stay longer.  If it it isn't, they will relocate often.

Hubby called in a nursing female yesterday. He uses rabbit and fawn distress with pretty good success this time of year. She was about 120 yards away from me , sitting on a stump. I blew her off of it, I was shooting my 30-06 because I have a bear tag. I don't know how long she had been sitting there, I just thought I would take  a quick look with my binos before I moved.

I blew her off of it, I was shooting my 30-06 because I have a bear tag. I don't know how long she had been sitting there, I just thought I would take  a quick look with my binos before I moved.

just curious are you carrying a machete?

Hope you found the den and killed the pups.  It is a slow, painful death for them to die of dehydration.

It's not always a death sentence, coyotes do adopt and surrogate females will come into milk. Some would say it's rarely a death sentence and hardly any pups die of dehydration from the main lactating female being killed.

Shot one (almost got 2) the other morning and one this evening. The one this evening came into a female barking call. Heard her barking in the reprod and mimicked her.  She made the mistake of stepping out in the pasture and droped her at 428 yds with the daughters .243.  That was coyote #18 so far for the year.  Mimick what you hear or when all else fails, woodpecker .  I don't bother using rabbit calls anymore.
