2017 Spring bear hunt.... Wolf down!
« on: May 29, 2017, 01:08:26 PM »
I hope this is ok to post? If not mods feel free to let me know.

The last few years a few of us from Rokslide, MtnOps and Longrangeonly have been getting together for a spring bear hunt in Idaho. This year the hunting was really tough due to all the snow and the late melt. We ended up not getting any bears and only saw a few but we had a great time and I was able to call wolves in on two different days for two of my buddies to shoot. It was an all around epic experience. Here is a link to where everyone on the trip will be posting their pictures and stories. http://www.rokslide.com/forums/general-discussion-forum/68788-2017-rokslide-spring-bear-hunt-wolf.html

Here are a couple cool pics.

Nice wolf! Sounds like an awesome experience!  Are you going to do a full body mount, a rug, etc.?

Nice job! Glad I wasn't the only one to struggle bear hunting this year. Hiked 40 miles over 8 days in Idaho to no avail. Congrats again!

The hides will be tanned and the skulls cleaned for display. Since they were shedding their winter coats, the hides weren't good enough for mounts.

The first one was shot by my good friend Ryan Avery of Avery Adventures podcast and Rokslide.com
Side note, if you like podcasts you definitely need to check out Avery Adventures.

The second wolf was shot the next day by Jeff Brozovich of Longrangeonly.com

The first one was a female that we guessed at about 75 lbs or so. We checked to for evidence of her nursing pups but couldn't find any. The second one was a male with best guess at weight being just over 100 lbs.

Cut her open and examine the uterus.  For several months after giving birth, you can see bumps where the feeding tube was attached to her pups.  Count the bumps and you know the size of the litter.

Those are beautiful rifles and good job on the wolves.
