Just for conversation,
If a Steelhead smolt, does not go to sea, is it still a Steelhead?
If a Rainbow goes to sea, does it grow up and become a Steelhead?
If an unclipped hatchery steelhead, is released does it morph into a wild steelhead?

 LOL

No
Yes
Yes, provided it goes to sea

I think it's pretty funny the WDFW made a boneheaded move like this.  I wonder if they're going to tell enforcement to lighten up on fin-clip violations - because if a guy can get an elk poaching case dropped over a poorly worded definition buried deep in the fine print, I imagine a judge would laugh the prosecutor right out of the courtroom when they ask His Honor to enforce a rule from a book whose cover image is in violation of that very rule.

That fish identifies as a carp... so it's fine. (Sarcasm)

Or, it could be a steelhead that identifies as a rainbow.  Much, much more information is needed before we as a group jump to conclusions on perhaps how this multi-colored river dweller identifies himself.

The key word with 3rd question is "wild"

Until the gill bearing aquatic creature can verbalize it's preferred pronoun, please refer to it as "fish self".  Otherwise you are being ableist and phobic.

That amazing little girl should be able to catch and do whatever she wants to with that fish! Other people that live in this state can, so why shouldn't she! I'm happy that she is happy.

If I caught that fish at that age I would have had a stick through its gills and been running up and down the bank showing it off to anyone that wanted to see it. Good thing i'm old and they didn't have bad rules when I was a kid, they would have looked me up. :IBCOOL:

So if I catch a 21" Rainbow in a river, how do I ask him if he's been out to sea?
