Poor comparison, not even remotely the same

How about we stick to the woods. You're giving the impression that if someone leaves a locked TC in the woods with the intent of returning to get it that it is abandoned property and the person who takes it is the new rightful owner.

To make it a fair comparison and not a stupid one, you go hunting and leave your truck in the woods locked up, with the intent of coming back to get it. Just as the trail cam, according to you, it is abandoned property and the person who takes it is the new rightful owner.

Or how about you just leave stuff alone that isn't yours  :twocents:

Hunter399  Leaving a vehicle on the highway is a safety issue.  You don't lose possession of the vehicle because it was "abandoned" and towed.  You lost your car because you didn't pay the wrecker to get it back.
If your car is not worth the impound fee and you choose not to pay the wrecker, you have then abandoned your vehicle.

Look into what it takes to have an abandoned vehicle removed from your property.  I've done it and it's not as simple as you think.  Do some homework on it.

You seem to be missing or intentionally overlooking those last details that would make you think like a normal reasonable person.
It sounds like your working hard at creating a justification that a normal, reasonable person would not.

This thread reminds me of the "dummy camp" discussions where the straight laced among us quoted laws that say any tent etc. on public land that goes 24 hours without somebody sleeping in it is officially abandoned and is fair game for trashing or stealing.  Do those same stupid laws apply to a trail camera on public land?

If so, why should any of us buy a camera when we can go hunting for one in the woods?

It will all be a moot point soon as the tree huggers get cams banned on public land for privacy - litter - fixed drone issues.   Its happening elsewhere already.  Then what happens when you find an illegal cam?

Obviously you take it and turn it in. Clearly it is abandoned property and the scofflaw needs to be prosecuted and points given out.

Insert not serious voiceover above please.

I don't think you guys can read and understand what I posted very well.

Property can be considered lost, mislaid or abandoned depending on the circumstances under which it is found by the next party who obtains its possession

When it's locked to a tree ,I'm sure it is stolen.

Compare a car with a title of owner ,to game cam that's personal property is a poor example.

Don't expect returned unless you can prove its yours .

I do think as more time goes on,more times wardens have to deal with this kind of thieft ,game cam laws may change in the future.Look at tree stands and hunting blinds on public ground ,if someone is in your blind before you ,they have the right to be there.similar laws will come for game cams.

Done with this topic ,take what I posted about abanded property anyway u like. For all of that follow the law to letter ,I don't see you having a problem. :twocents:

I like the example.  It points out similarities and some obvious differences.  I bought property with multiple abandoned vehicles on it and a bear stand.  I jumped through the hoops to get the vehicles removed.  The tree stand was different.  I taped a note to it along with an empty bottle of the owners favorite bear bait.  Said come talk to me, your gear is on my property with a phone #.  I removed those items some time latter without ever getting a phone call.   :dunno:   :chuckle:

Maybe he's the guy that tried to steal one of my cams down there.  All  of the cameras that I've lost have been on private property.  I guess trespassers don't like having their pictures taken.  While I can't I.D. them all, I've gotten pretty good at putting names to them and thinning them out of my little slice of American Pie.

Multiple trail cams at one spot works wonders.

Yep, that's how I got a trespasser to come clean.  "No I wasn't on your property and no you don't have a photo of me"  Then you show them the photo from the camera that they didn't open up and delete the photos from and the story changes, "Oh yeah that was me on that camera but I didn't delete the photos from the other camera.  What happened was....."  Blah blah blah.

The guy on your cam is certainly someone that I would like to talk to if I were you.  Good luck on catching whoever took your cam.
Pain is temporary, achieving the goal is worth it.

I didn't say it would be easy, I said it would be worth it.

Everyone should carry bolt cutters I guess especially in you had preconceived intentions of stealing a cam.

Is it me, or is this thread a perfect example of how people love to be hostile to each other?

If it IS me who is imagining things about this thread, feel free to be hostile towards me.  That way I'll know for sure.

Seems normal for this time of the year.  Are you sure the tinfoil didn't slip down and obscure your vision?

Only kidding - don't verbally assault me. :chuckle:

Reading this thread makes me think half the people who have commented must have actually thought OJ was innocent also.
