swafford pond down by mossy rock has some nice catfish...i think they are bullheads though.

there is a little pond/lake in whitecenter that we use to catch catfish in, again they are bullheads. biggest being about 2lbs. there is also one little frog pond that i have caught them up to 5lbs in.

ive fished the snake a few times for cats. averaging 5lbs and the biggest being around 20lbs (caught by my buddy).
Ive tried swafford twice didnt catch any.I heard there were some channels in there, but no luck for me

you gotta fish at night. ive caught one during the day but thats it. all have been at night at the south end of the pond.

We fish the first week of June over by central ferry on the snake river. We use a boat and if it isn't blowing we do real good.

Lyons Ferry is where we go, up the mouth of the Palouse river during the spring spawn, we take a 17' Alumaweld and do really good. Its fun fishing. If they are biting you are in for a lot of fun. If it is to windy you don't even need to bother launching your boat. We tried anchoring last year with a 50 pound rock and it still managed to drag us. I catch my bait from shore before I go out but I've never got a cat on that part of the river from shore. Down along the snake near Lewiston I've got them under grain stations.
If you shoot the first one you will never get that true trophy.

SWEET, two things, I see that was in winter, were you targeting cats or was it a fluke.

Secondly lets have a catfish get together this summer.  I miss catching catfish when I was growing up in MO.

I hear you Machias, it was my way of life as a kid.   I used to fish heavily for the out of the Ohio River in WVA growing up with chicken liver or gizzards...  A good night we'd catch 30-40...  Throw in a couple bullhead and a hundred Carp we be busy.....  Remember this was back when kids could actually stay out all night fishing and Mom and Dad wouldn't get worried, a couple tires on the fire and it burned all night long, til Dad would pick us up in the morning to go home...

I love catfishing.  Wish there were more of em around.  I've pretty much only caught em in the Snake.  I like to drift and bobber fish for em just like you would steelhead... same gear and everything, usually just deeper and in the summer when it's warm.

That was a cold trip, but was pretty fun. We released six very large cats that day. I have caught them on anything from hot dogs to chicken gizzards/liver. Awesome tasting fish and very fun to fight.
