Kimber Montana 280 AI owners.
« on: July 04, 2017, 06:04:06 PM »
DISCLAIMER!

I can care less what you "Google" clowns have to say, plenty of those here.

I was thinking about having a custom lighter weight .280 AI built before this falls hunting season but with allot of work and all I am actually thinking about purchasing a factory rifle😷. I have looked over several and "Some" claim the Montana's shoot and some say they don't. What I want to hear about is actual trigger time with the Kimber Montana .280 AI. I could careless about your pal, your girlfriend or your transgender pals experience with one.

The DISCLAIMER should be, don't be drinking water or anything else, while you read this.  I just spent the last few minutes cleaning water off my keyboard after it went shooting out my nose while I was reading this.  OMG, that is some seriously funny sh1t!!!!  :chuckle: :chuckle:

Love it. I gave up asking gun related questions on here, for every 1 actual answers there are 10 others telling you why you are wrong to ask or why would you want that caliber/brand/don't you know light guns are hard to shoot etc. good luck on your info search I have almost pulled the trigger on one a handful of times (no pun intended)

Usually I just buy it. Shoot it and if I don't like it. Ditch it!

Thought for the first time here I would ask about actual real world bench time with a Kimber 280 AI and cut through the google, internet clown crap.

Don't have experience so just tagging to hear about your experience..  But to me the 280 AI is the perfect caliber for an ultralight rifle.  It's actually the caliber I'm considering for my next custom project, and looking ultralight as well.

I was looking for the best performance in a non Magnum chambering.

Curious, why does it have to be a non Magnum?  You mentioned something on the lighter side, how lightweight are you thinking, less scope??

I have a Kimber Montana in 280AI.  Special ordered it 3 or 4 years ago.  I have had nothing but positive experiences with mine and I've lugged it into some remote and rugged country.  I've developed loads for it and have yet to find a bullet it won't shoot.  Accubonds, TTSX, ELD-X - loves them all.  I loaded exclusively with H4831SC.  I have never pushed mine to it's limits and have settled on mild loads.  I don't consider the Montana a long range rifle simply due to it's lightweight I find it difficult to steady for true long range work.  Even off a benchrest I find it takes a lot of concentration and focus to execute good form.  Doing load development is a bit punishing due it's lightweight, especially when moving into heavy loads.  It's doable just not as easy as with a 12 pounds rifle.  You know how the saying goes, the lightweight rifle has only one advantage over the heavyweight rifle.  I will post up some of my load development targets for your reference.  I've taken two deer with the rifle, one with the 140 TTSX load and one with a 140 AB.  The 162 ELD-X is on deck for use this fall.
