Advice on rv trailer brands
« on: July 08, 2017, 09:17:27 AM »
I am looking for a 24-27' rv trailer with atleast a queen bed and bunk beds. I went up to mt Vernon and looked at the keystone trailers and liked them until reading reviews on them and even taking o a buddy who just bought one that had issues with the first one he bought leaking.

What are some brands that you would recommend and what ones to stay away from?

Shop in Arizona for a used one. Depreciation is huge on trailers.

It's really hard to say one brand is better than others. It seems like the RV industry has more lemons than any other industry. I would just stay away from the econoline versions. I'd also look at used that are only a couple years old. They should have all the bugs worked out of them because of warranty. Also expect most new RVs to go back to the dealer for small repairs and glitches.
Check out RV.net a lot of good info there.

I have a 2015 Springdale that's been good. No issues with it.

I got a keystone cougar, the western version. Spent a month in it and not too many complaints. Driving it home somehow we got a short in the brakes. Sucky but any keystone dealer will fix it. All the plywood is super thin but they're trying to save weight so it makes sense. Doing it again I'd probably still go with TacomaRV. The warranty/ support is amazing. No leaks, no pipe issues, nothing's broke. Just those darn trailer brakes grounding. Wire got scuffed when they were installing. Made it 8 hours away before they shorted.
May my presence go unnoticed, may my shot be true, may the blood trail be short.

Amen

Depending on what you want to spend, you might want to check Craigslist for a nice used  21" or 25" Bigfoot trailer (Canadian built).  You'll find them for 20K, plus or minus.  True 4 season trailer and top quality.  They usually go quick.  If you decide to sell later, you will generally get your investment back.  Not so with others.

I have a 2008 25' FB (front bedroom).  Bought it last October in northern California.  Even if I sell it two years from now, I probably will get what I paid for it.

Also have a 2006 25RSS Outback I purchased to put on my property in eastern Washington to save motel costs.  Nice trailer.  Obviously not the quality of a Bigfoot, but nice features for what I bought it for.  It's 25' with a rear manual pull out queen that makes it 30'.  Also has an electric slide mid trailer.

I worked at a dealership for a short time and I will say there is no need to go buy a new one.  They are marked up a lot and they lose value extremely fast.  Go buy one that is a year old or so and save 10 k.

We've had good luck with our used 2003 Komfort 27t, I knew its history though. Stored inside every winter but one. I agree look for a nice used one, but you do have to be very careful. Leaks can be very hard to see or feel, especially this time of year.

I read a quote somewhere that said something like, "All of them are junk, you just have to pick which junk fits your needs best and live with the imperfections"  :chuckle:.

My brother has a Creekside by Outdoors RV (built in OR).  Him and my SiL really like it.

I have to keep the wife away from it when we go camping because she starts talking about us getting a newer trailer.

Another vote for Outdoors RV.  I've done a ton of research and for the bunkhouse models, We went with the Timber Ridge 270DBHS.  The wife, kid and dog love it and all the standard items that are upgrades on other brands.
