My Dad wasn't much of a cook, so this was our camping tradition-

Uh, is that bread in a can?

Never had that, Mag? It's a sweet brown bread and usually served with beans.

Goes awesome with a whole canned chicken!!
If you aint hunting, you aint livin'

Once we came back from hunting and all we had left was  spaghetti and chilli. From there on it was a combo as kids we always asked for. Haven't had it for awhile but still feel like I should make it when we are out

Merk, that banana thing sounds good. The pizza one we have done, along with pie filling.  Actually have some mellows,  chocolate and gram crackers with bread and iron.  Not bad, really sweet though

The only thing i've done every year would be the venison chunks on a stick for all in camp. This thread does sound like a good traditional dinner would be a great idea.

My kids love egg in a hole for some odd reason.  Take a slice of bread, use the bottom of a coke can to cut a hole in the middle.  Butter both sides, put it in a pan and crack an egg in the middle.  They aren't that good in my opinion, but they are a special camping thing that they go crazy over.

CAMPING BISCUITS

2 c. sifted flour
3 3/4 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
6 tbsp. shortening
2/3 c. milk

Sift flour, baking powder and salt. Cut in shortening (biscuits may be prepared this far and kept in a closed jar ready to add milk at any time). Stir in milk and knead lightly. Roll out to 1/4 inch thickness and cut. Cook in lightly greased hot skillet over very low heat until browned on one side and raised to a height of one inch. Turn and brown on other side.

Give this a whirl.

Cut up a few different veggies like onions, peppers or what you like and pile them in middle of skillet.  Cut all but about 3/4" of bread out leaving the crust. Lay it over the veggies so they are in the middle. Crack an egg of two in the middle and cook it up like an omelette. Take another piece of bread, leave whole and butter one side. Lay it on top with butter side up and then flip the whole thing over. Cook that for a minute or two and you have an omelette sandwich.

Do you wait for egg to cook then put bread on top and flip immediately ?
