These fish taste great! They are silky textured with the high fat content. 

We did our biweekly seining at Watmough Bight on Lopez Friday (Kwiaht.org) and saw a few fish surfacing near where we usually do our third set.  I swung a little wider with the boat to see if we might get a few and ended up pulling up 56 of them.   

These fish looked great, only one had the damaged looking mouth, which from an expert opinion was likely caused by the fish catching its jaw in the net when it was young. Not a single fish had any sea lice on it, so much for the parasite argument....

None fileted on the beach had anything in it's stomach though a friend I gave one to said there was a Sandlance in one of his.

I ended up with ten of the fish on the bow for a total of 57 pounds of filets.   

ANYONE CATCHING THESE, PLEASE LET ME OR KWIAHT.ORG KNOW WHAT THE STOMACH CONTENTS ARE IN YOUR FISH, EVEN IF THERE IS NOTHING.

Don't shoot me for asking this (which may already be known)....are you running a sein net in the salt? Are you a commercial guy, or because they are needing to be killed, you're allowed to use this method?

If you're seining them, that's awesome! I have to admit, it's something I've always wanted to try.

I'm just jealous, because I wish it was my freezer.  The state of our fisheries is abysmal.  Nice job Loki.   Eat well!

We are going to do some more seining targeting these fish on this Friday at 4 at Watmough Bight, anyone is welcome to come.  Of course there are no guarantees we will catch enough to share.

I was surprised no one I saw was floating powerbait off the bottom like a put and take trout lake.

Given that brown powerbait probably looks like their food pellet seems like it should match the hatch.

As far as I know, I believe the WDFW bulletin said no restrictions.

I've heard of people using powerbait successfully, I tried catfish pellets under a bobber, but they just swam by it.

Nw sportsman gave a tip....take along a little pea gravel....toss a few handfuls to simulate their feed and then cast to them.
