So, I want a Dodge Challenger.  Probably not the Hellcat because of the price but, I want a Challenger instead of the Charger because of the manual transmission available in the Challenger.  Looking at probably the 485hp SRT.  Any reason I shouldn't get one?  I've heard Dodges live in repair shops.  Is this true for the Challengers?  Help me out here.

It would suck on the gravel roads.  It would be difficult stuffing a deer or elk in it.  Way to loud, it would chase off the game if your road hunter.  You would be the guy that that everyone says WTF is that doing up here.   :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:

I wanted one when they first came out.      My friend bought me one.......1:18 scale.  Still have it.  The obsession is gone and reality has set in.  I'll never have my Harley either. :dunno:

I drove a couple a few years ago while car shopping.

Figure out what you're looking for in a performance car. If you want a muscle car to go fast in a straight line, the Challenger is great. I felt the same way about the Mustang GT and Cammaro SS. From a handling standpoint I felt like they were all bricks. They didn't corner well, and they just felt like power with limited control. If you're looking for a freeway cruiser or something to run through town they'd be great.

I realized that I wanted a better handling and slightly more "refined" car and ended up with a Lexus IS350 F (was a lease and turned it in a while back). I spend more time driving rural roads with twists and turns than straight lines. The Lexus held corners better than a straight muscle car and just had a better feel when driving. The price is pretty close to a well equipped Challenger SRT and I felt like the Lexus had significantly better build quality than the American muscle cars.

That said, get the Challenger if that's what you like. It's only money, you can always earn more but you can't take it with you. Enjoy it while you can. :twocents:

First of all, it ain't a 4x4 truck that you can throw an elk, deer, bear, moose, ect in the back of. My son in law has one, and he got popped in longview last year for doing 164 on I5. So, it would be really easy to get into real trouble with it real quick!!

I bought a new car a couple months ago. One of the cars I looked at was a chev half ton LTZ with a 6.2 liter 420 HP, same motor as my daughters hot rod Camaro. To be honest when I drove it and looked into it I found it was mostly noise. sounded great, but not really very quick or fast. I just read a review of the Challenger not too quick. But it depends on why you want it, its your dime!! :)

Aren't you the guy who was asking about tires, trying to squeeze extra tenth's of percentage points of fuel mileage on a 40MPG car? You don't want a Challenger.

Oh, they're fast. There's no lack of power in an SRT8 Challenger.

Why would you need talked out of it?

They look cool, drive more "old school" and still give you some reliability and modern comfort that is going to be lost in a classic. I know a couple guys that have them and with the manual its a fun car to drive. Its not my preference as I like more old school metal or motorcycles, but it is certainly fun wit the option of a daily driver.

My only reservation would be if financing. Be cautious and take a real look at expected depreciation. I really wanted a Harley several year back, and because depreciation was negligible I was able to buy one trick it out and play with it for a couple years before I lost interest in that bike and sold it with negligible loss making it an affordable bucket list item. I am not sure about this rig tho, So I would do very thorough research prior if planning to finance as being strapped to it via payments is not fun IMO.

A buddy of mine has a Hellcat. Enough power to make a grown man giggle. Ha. I can't talk you out of it. They are a fun rig.

Forget a Challenger. You want a Jeep Trackhawk. You can fit waaaaay more outdoor gear in there... and a few dead animals.
