Male black bear will run a sow out of her den and kill/ eat the cubs.  Been documented in Washington.

Does this fall under the 'if you snooze - you lose' category?  :dunno: :dunno: :dunno:

I wonder what the trichinae will do to the wolves....

Probably just make them more mad than they already are.

Wolves eat anything that provides nutrition and yes the parasite trichinae would be a problem leading to increased wolf mortality.

Black bears are actually the top predator for black bears.

A study done in Alaska claims that for every bear a hunter kills 33.4 bears are killed by other bears. Trophy hunting is causing the high number of bears now in Alaska due to the killing off of large bears.

This is not "new" news. I have had a few of my lion hunting buddies send me pictures of dead bears drug out of dens that they found. One in northwest Montana and one in Idaho. Thanks for posting though wolfbait, wolves are even screwing up  other predators. They are such a noble species! what a terrible way to get woke up wow

Ok all you "wlf haters".. You talk a lot of smack on here but now it's time to put up.. The Idaho Trappers Association needs financial help and comments on proposed lengthening of wolf seasons. Idaho wolfves will eventually become Washington wolves if numbers increase.
I'm sending a donation and commenting on the proposal today. So no more blowing smoke and let's see some action! (You especially Wolfbait.)
I'll be watching.. and  seeing who just  like to whine.

No question these predators put the hurt on each other time to time!

Interesting paper for you all- Kunkel and Mech (1994)- study of tagged fawns in Minnesota- wolves and black bears shared 50/50 responsibility for white-tailed fawn mortality, and were the sole source of fawn mortality (at least in that study).

They wouldn't be eating bears if they didn't wipe out the deer population.

At this point a few more wolves trapped in Idaho will make no difference in WA, WA is now thoroughly infested with wolves. Trapping and hunting combine will not control wolf populations, so if you really want to help Idaho etc. campaign for more areal gunning or poison baits in areas where wolves are decimating the game herds etc.. Look at Alaska as an example of wolf control efforts.

Look at Alaska.. More wolves are killed by trappers/hunters than aerial shooting by far. Aerial shooting was designed as a supplemental measure in certain areas only. In one unit (19 I believe?) It had no measurable results as it was bears not wolves that were causing high mortallity rates on moose.
Anybody who doesn't think that a high population of wolves in one state isn't going to effect neighboring states doesn't know spit about them.  They move with  the availibility of food sources. Often times hundreds of miles and in conflict with other packs of wolves.
