Carrying sidearm while scouting/hunting/etc

A few that I use quite a bit.  See if you spot the theme...

Left to right:

S&W 696 3" .44 Special on a sling pack with basic L-frame 3-slot holster.   The 3 slot allows you to wear it like an in waistband booster, between the strap and your chest.  Very low profile and does not flop at all.  A lot of people discourage off body carry but I have look at this like a chest rig that just happens to hold water, trail cams, and bike repair stuff.

S&W 629 6.5" .44 mag and Hunter brand shoulder rig.  Only >4" hunting legal of the three.  I added the brass buckle at the bottom with some leather strands.  It is stiff, attaches to front left belt loop, and keeps the whole thing pretty solid despite just one strap.  Sits fairly vertically so my hand is at chin level before it clears leather, but not too bad to draw.  Fits a number of 6.5" revolvers and they are very reasonably priced.

Ruger SBH 3.75" .44 mag in Simply Rugged Pancake with Chesty Puller option.  Great quality, very adjustable.

Revolves might be heavy but man oh man are they cool! Love the S&W 696, what a great hiking gun.

I have a couple thigh rigs Blackhawk and Fodus that I have tried while hunting/hiking. While great for CQB they hinder movement to much, especially over miles of hiking to use while hunting.

I carry a Phalanx Stealth Operator holster and my Glock 21 Gen2 .45, it is light weight and rides tight to the body.

My safariland belt drop. About $150 new. Found mine on eBay in new condition for $15.

That's just a low ride duty holster thats outdated with poor retention,  would work well for woods carry though     but it's not a drop holster.

Not a drop leg. Some of the low ride rigs are advertised with 1-2.5" drop. I appreciate you taking time out of your weekend to *censored* talk my gear though.

Anything your sidearm can do ,my rifle does ten times better.

When I do wear sidearm which has not been in years it's a 357 blackhawk.

I would love to see your rifle fire 12 rounds of .40 cal before reload.

My old pack I carried a cheap clip-on uncle Mikes thing, crossdraw, on the waist strap. My new pack had MOLLE/PALS webbing on the waist strap so I have an order in for an MOLLE holster from Ares tactical.

If i did not use a bino harness I would probably use the chest rig from Hill People Gear

This is the holster I use, it’s a drop leg. It’s surprisingly comfortable. A great deal for the price, it’s pretty much universal for handguns. It also never feels like it’s in the way

So you don't think a ar15 that holds 30 rounds won't put more down range than your 40 cal,also I hold more range and accuracy.

I'm using a Gunfighter Kenai holsters for either a Glock 40 10mm or a KelTec PMR 30.... Probably pack the PMR more, it's so light I never know it's there and 30 rounds of 22 mag, works for me.
