So im retooling for my Rimrock Quality Archery tag and iv picked up a 2016 icon pro frame off the Kuiu outlet. Now the ultra pack bags are on sale for the 4th of july, anyone have experiance with the ultra 6000 its 112$ and Im debating on that or the new 5500 for 140$. opinions welcomed.

My buddy has the Ultra 6000 bag. It is lighter but a bare bones minimalist type bag. If you're hauling in camp, I would go with the 5200 icon pro. Tons of organization. In my opinion, it's probably the best bag design out there. I've often thought about putting the Icon Pro bag on my Stone Glacier frame, that would be the best of both worlds!

I would pay the extra money for the 5500. The 6k only has one pocket on the side so I have to pick between my bugle tube and trekking poles. The 5500 also has a hydration sleeve inside to help keep things tidy. I ended up buying a used icon pro 1850 bag for 80$. The smaller internal capacity isn’t a big deal to me because you can sandwich a ton between the frame and bag.

I use the 6000 bag on my Ultra frame.   Very lightweight.   I also have the 3000 and 1800 bags that I'll swap off for day trips.

I like that it's just one bag without internal pockets.  More flexible packing options.   I'm not a fan of tons of internal pockets. 

I haven't used an Icon frame before, nor attempted to fit an Ultra bag on an Icon frame so can't comment on that.  On the Ultra frame, they focused the design on weight conservation.  The downside of that is the straps they use for the load lifters are very thin and simply don't hold under heavy load.  The work around is to double them up when under heavy load, and that solves the issue.  I don't know if the Icon pack frame uses thicker straps or not.

Wonder if the icon pro bags will attach to other frames? I’ve had the same thoughts. Love the access & organization of the icon pros over the ultra not to mention durability over weight savings.

Except for Gen 1 bags I believe all Kuiu bags attached to all Kuiu frames.

Kuiu bags also attach pretty easily to Kifaru frames.  ;)

I have been using the ultra 6000 for a few years. I like how simple it is as I’m not a fan of several pockets. I’ve used it to pack four moose and two elk so far and while it’s not Kifaru or Stone Glacier I don’t have many complaints.

Like my ultra 3000 for daypack and meatpacking.  The Ultra 6000 I don't like as well for camping - seemed like I was always digging around trying to find stuff but maybe just need to get used to it.   Do like the light weight of the Ultra's.  Mite look at the 5500.
