I have called in 16 bears so far, all in the fall.
I have done well using a very raspy call. I call with a lot of emotion and anguish. I set a watch out in front of me to keep track of time. I start off somewhat quiet and increase my volume and intensity. I call non-stop for at least 45 minutes to an hour. If I am hunting with someone else we trade off calling, anytime there is a slight pause the other guy starts calling. I put the watch out front because when calling by myself it is hard work to call non-stop for that amount of time. I will say most of my bears have come in within 25 to 30 minutes.
Out of curiosity, about what percentage of the time does calling work for you? I'm very new, so I've tried calling maybe ... 20 times? And haven't seen anything yet. Is that expected? Or am I doing something wrong, perhaps not calling long enough, or in the right places?

Fall calling works as well as in the spring, if not better in my opinion.Keep at it, good things will come. Now is my favorite time to call, provided its not too windy and rainy.
