Chainsaw question

So I have a Stihl chainsaw, one size smaller than the Farm Boss. I opened my carry case for it an saw that a bunch of the bar oil had leaked out. It was sitting in the normal position, not on its side. So I refilled it and left it on a board for a few days and it was leaking again. before I bring it in, is there anything I should check? No visible cracks or anything...and it has been not been abused.

That tells me your oiler is working well and isn't plugged partially like most.

I’m not sure how much it’s leaking, but that’s pretty normal on any saw that’s ever worked right.  Basically along the lines of what he said

My MS 270 case always has a thick layer of bar oil in the bottom. Keeps the spare chains lubed up!

I don't think I've ever seen a chainsaw case without oil in the bottom, except for brand-new.

I had the same problem. It was the cap. Luckily an easy fix.

  to what everyone has said. If it just leaks a little thats normal, if it dumps the whole tank overnight thats not normal. I keep a few shop rags in my case and they eventally get oil soaked, just replace them every now and then and the mess is minimal, if you store it long times between use you could just empty the tank before storage. I have a few saws and the worse is the only husky in the mix, no matter what ive done it leaks pretty good, i figure the stihls make it nervous and its just peeing its pants

I store the saws on their sides, bar up, filler caps down.

As long as you have a good O rings on the caps the oiler won't drip as it's now on the high side.   

make sure you have good caps though

1. Talk to a Stihl dealer that knows their stuff. There is a fix for excessive oil leakage, don't recall exactly what it is other than something with the oil line they replace (One of my smaller saws has needed this done 2 different times now.)

2. There are actually summer and winter bar oils, wrong one at wrong time of year can cause excessive leaking.

Yep mine does too, I pretend it is rust preventative
