Worth reloading for 9mm?

Just purchased a 9mm from a fellow forum member. I’m having a blast shooting this thing. It’s my first mid sized pistol (to own not shoot) I plan to shoot it enough to become proficient with and then shoot it some more. I’ve always saved my brass, but have not started reloading yet. Is 9mm a caliber worth reloading for? Just curious if there’s enough savings to justify the time and effort? At the rate I’m going I’ll have a few hundred pieces of brass soon. Thanks for any input

If you already have a reloading setup? Then I would say yes. But if you don’t, then I would say no unless you plan on loading at least a couple 1000 rounds on a regular basis.

Premium defense ammo may be a different story, however, but that is more a matter of opinion than just savings.

I agree, if you are looking at taking classes on a regular basis or shooting IDPA or similar and intend to go through thousands of rounds then it can be very worth it.  I never shot a ton, most was about 3-4k a year but the savings add up fast.  Brass for 9mm is very easy to acquire and the small amount of powder make it cheap to reload.

I do all mine on a Lee Turret, so it isn't even a high speed operation.  You can get into a decent Lee setup for a reasonable amount of money although I would go progressive if you are looking at high volume.

Montana Gold were the best value last time I bought some if you want to check on prices.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I currently do not reload, but my kids are off to college now and I feel I could finally set up a station and actually use it. I shoot 30 06 and 338 win mag for rifles and also have a 44 mag which I could definitely use more practice with to get where I want to be. It would like adding 9mm to the equation may make it a worthwhile endeavor.  I also like the idea of being able to turn out rounds if and when they’re hard to come by

I load -06, .243, 9mm and 38/357 all off the Lee Turret.  Depending on your budget, you may want to look into that option as it is pretty slick to have all the calibers mounted permanently on their own turret and just swap them out for what you are loading.  There are certainly better setups , but hard to beat the value for budget minded guys.

As far as savings you would have to just buy the bare minimum in reloading supplies and equipment. Then do a lot of shooting to load enough ammo to recoup the cost. I will never break even on reloading cost. But I can load for any caliber I have and other calibers friends have at a fraction of the cost on certain calibers. I can also load ammo that you can not buy off the gun store shelf. Wildcat calibers and obsolete calibers are no problem either.
9mm is a low cost item, but I load it anyways. I will be buying a stainless Ruger Blackhawk in 357/9mm for my grandson to shoot this spring. So I will.be able to load it up hot or load it down to the bare minimum. Plus I can buy cheap projectiles and load it cheaper then I can buy factory ammo.
If you decide to get into reloading you can do it a little at s time and buy used equipment.
Visit a few of the guys on here and see their setup and give it a try while there. If you do I suggest you start with a decent single stage press and then go from there.

I buy thousands of Reman ammo 9mm,they take the brass in trade in. If I was gonna reload it I would buy a Dillon. I load lots of rifle and large pistol. I buy my defense ammo
