Heard Excalibur crossbows are pretty good but don't know much more than that.
May I ask why crossbows? I saw that you mentioned being a beginner, beginner to crossbow hunting or hunting in general?

I'd ask what is your budget? There are good bows for $300 or you can full bore and spend over $1,500 for a Ravin.
For Barnett, look at the Whitetail Pro STR. Sturdy, light and shoots 22" bolts. I also like the quiver to hold bolts parallel to the stock. Less likely to snag on brush.
