Ellensburg Turkey

I have seen some up the Wilson and Elk heights area. Any ideas on where to go this year in that area? I would like to go and take the boy and son in law.

Turkeys are all over N. and S. Of E-burg. The ones that hang out on public land are crafty little buggers and cover a lot of grpund though.

A buddy and I put on 14 miles in 328 on-foot last year and didn't turn up a single gobble/track/scat pile, even though the week prior I had seen over 30 birds in the same area.

Try to keep tabs on them as best you can and find some ridgetop roost areas. Bout as scenic as turkey hunting gets over there too, can't beat that aspect.

I have seen lots during archery elk season but not during turkey season

I've been checking the Colockum maps and planning to head out that way for a few days when the season opens up if the snow melts in time. Otherwise does anyone have any other ideas?

  You didn't have to use the exact number of x's the correlate with the word safezone or was that safety zone in the Wenas thread?

If I were looking for a turkey spot I think I would drive a little further east, odds go way up.

There are turkeys pretty much in a 360 degree circle of eburg.   They are scattered and few and far between.   Locals who spend time there have a better chance.  For an all out turkey experience I’d continue east where they are everywhere.   The localized action can be great here, but “local” is a key word.

Turkeys are amazing and I am sure once they get a good foothold in the area the hunting will be just as good as the units in the NE and SE but right now it is slim pickens.  If conditions stay good for 5-7 years I can see it getting really good at that point.

NWTF needs to get a permit to start transplanting birds in Central WA.

Couple years of that and you're right, things would be epic. Textbook Merriams habitat basically everywhere.

Central Wa turkeys use maps to avoid public properties.

The way to find one is to not be looking for one.

Go out there for fishing or mushrooms. Helps to not have a shotgun or a license.

But seriously my fishing buddy ran into a giant flock out there. Asked me if it is normal to see that many toms at one time.
