I don't see the need to take out any mature 2 point bucks that may exist. What is the reason for that? I get the feeling people think they're inferior and are somehow detrimental to overall herd health. Why?

Exactly.

Wish I would have noticed this earlier. Got turned around by the closure. Hope nobody died.

My thoughts that I had hoped to share this evening are as follows...

I have hunted these units since the late nineties. There have been ups and downs but mostly downs. I'm not a biologist I don't have exact numbers and buck to doe ratio numbers.

I'm just another guy with a truckload of anecdotal evidence. I may not be a local seeing things daily. But I hunt up there multiple seasons a year, I cut my firewood up there, I trap, camp, and fish throughout these units most of the year.

While there is not one issue to place the blame upon, the easiest thing we can do is to stop hunting does. It is asinine to keep having these any deer seasons. The whitetail deer is such a prolific animal and will always be willing to bounce back but we have to do our part and right now we aren't.

Final thought here. No I'm not the guy complaining because I can't find deer. I always find a few huntable bucks and almost always get it done. But when I hunt the same 3 to 5 bucks each year and watch the surrounding doe population go from 20 to 12 to 6 and then 4, it's time for doe hunts to stop.
Kindly do not attempt to cloud the issue with too many facts.

It's funny how the game department planted wolves in Washington to kill everything off and now hunters want to change the  hunting rules and take away doe tags for the youth and elderly people and other opportunitys because of population of deer and other game .  it's the game department fault  wolves and cats killing everything and the game department doesn't want to manage the problem .  I don't see how we the people hunters is the problem the numbers were fine before all the predators got out of control  . just saying it's pretty sad reading how people want to take away hunting .
My friend a Wise man said they planted the wolves back in the States because the government doesn't want hunting and planted grizzlies in the mountains so they can close mountains down to people and hunters because of bear attacks . . Witch looks to be true game numbers are  falling and and people want to close tags or numbers and last hunting season they  closed grand Teton national park for elk hunting do to grizzly bears . Pretty sad the future of hunting
:yeah: over harvest is not the issue. Predators are. I wish I could give away common sense because a few anti- opportunity people here need it :twocents:

So killing does despite tanking numbers is common sense? The whitetail needs to be slain at all ages and sexes because "WDFW EVIL"? If that's common sense then go ahead and keep it my friend. :hello:

I completely agree on the doe harvest to stop, but does this now put even more pressure on the buck population from all the guys that previously drew doe tags now will go out with their buck tag. Is this doe harvest only limiting to permits or is archery and muzzy seasons still going to be either sex?

It's actually affecting more of the general seasons than permits.

Here's a screenshot from their presentation planned for the fish and wildlife commission meeting in Spokane on March 1st:

All deer seasons will be any buck for all users .
And yes this will put a lot of pressure on bucks ,that really buck populations are not doing that well as is.

it doesn't take a bio to know that deer numbers the last 5 years have dramatically dropped. With the inventions of trail cams and anyone who spends a lot of time running them in areas over a period of time can see whats going on with herd numbers. I have places that just a few years ago were loaded with deer and this past year I was lucky to get a deer on cam. I have a buddy who hunts, shed hunts and scouts 101 a ton and the crap he finds is sad. He was hiking the S fork of sherman creek and found 2 herds of muley does wiped out by wolves 13 in total.

That is exactly the kind of thing that needs to be documented and made public. The misconception out that that the poor little wolves are running for their lives and don't impact the ungulate population is BS

A friend who was at the meeting said there was a huge turn out with lots of hunters joining the group.
