What vest are you guys running?
« on: March 02, 2019, 06:31:55 AM »
I’ve been using a no name vest for many years, mostly because I don’t go out much. The last couple years I’ve been hunting a lot more and am ready for an upgrade. I think the biggest factor is a comfy seat that is easy to deploy and put back. My budget is $100.

Is it worth investing in a vest? I will be heading out for my first time this year and have everything but a vest. I was planning on carrying everything in my shirt pockets and cargo pockets. A seat does sound nice though.

I don't use one.

I have a small pack I can sit on.

Just make sure to bug spray whatever you use.

I started using mine 2years ago and like it.
It’s not necessary but I like the individual pockets and the sit pad

I bought a Alps long spur.  I have an Alps elite to.  I do not like the pads.  Most vests come with seats that are mediocre at best.  The most comfortable thing I have come across is the low pro chairs.  I used to carry just a pack but I like having access to my calls on me.  Also has a small fanny pack to put rain gear, snacks or water.  Plus the long spur cuts down on the amount of thungs I bring out with me.  My Apls Elite vest propably ways 30 lbs.  :chuckle:

A lot of vests out there are really over designed.  It doesnt have to be that complicated.  I'm a fan of the Russell elite III.  Only complaint is as a smaller framed guy, it would stuff off my shoulders.  I had my wife see an additional buckle up top and it solved the issue.  Zippers are not very robust either.  One I keep my gloves in blew out. You can see the added buckle in this pic.

Had a lot of different turkey vests over the years.  My current one is my favorite.  Last year I purchased the new Primos Rocker Vest.  It's within your budget level at $98 on Amazon.  Well thought out as far as storage and compartments for anything you want to have with you in then field.  There is no perfect vest, but this one comes close. :twocents:

I've never used a vest for turkeys, I know most people like them but I'm not a fan. I usually wear my Sitka layout pack. I'm excited to try out my new timberline pants, they have plenty of zippers so I don't see a need for a pack other than for water or food. With a built in waterproof butt I think the pants will be great, I also picked up a core hoody with a built in face mask so I'm excited to use that too. I just like having as little as I need so that I can move around easily and have everything ready when I need it. Hope you find a vest and good luck this year!

I hunt turkeys a lot like how I hunt elk...cover a lot of ground, ridge hopping calling and looking for sign.  I tried a vest years ago but it didn’t fit my hunting style very well. I carry my box call in my pant cargo pocket and locator calls on the other leg.  Small inflatable therma rest seat pad rides rolled up in my pack. If I’m using a decoy which is rarely I just strap it to the pack.

I’m still running my Super Elite 2. It works good for what I need for running and gunning. Lots of pockets and room in the back for a decoy/dead bird.

I've opted to use a chest pack instead of a vest.
Got a hunters specialties undertaker, holds everything I need it to hold, all in a easy to see and access spot.  I'm going to hang it from the blind when hunting out of that, and wear it normal if out of the blind. I've found i really only use a couple calls most days, and prefer to have my actual hunting pack with me over just a vest.

I used some no name brand one the first couple of years and never liked it. Seemed to be made for someone shorter and wider. I stopped using a vest for several years because I like to run and gun. My wife bought me the Alps Long Spur for my birthday in January. I really liked the non vest style of pockets and a removable pack. Apparently Russ already has the vest. I'm excited to test it out in April and see what it can do.

Cabela's Minimalist.  Just fine for my needs.  I also use it hunting deer, when I'm gonna be within reasonable distance from my truck.
