Question on how 2nd deer tags work
« on: June 12, 2019, 02:35:12 PM »
So first, do i have to purchase a second deer tag, or does it just get mailed to me free?

The hunt i drew is "any weapon to apply" but i have an archery deer license.  so im assuming i have to use my bow, right? If so, i should be able to trade in my archery deer license for a multi season, and at that point i could use a rifle.  Or, having an archery deer license, could i choose modern as the weapon type on my second deer tag, rather than shelling out cash for a multi? Hope this makes sense, never drawn 2nd deer and not quite sure how it all works.

Does he have to buy the multi though? I feel like the tag would allow you to hunt “any” of it’s and “any” tag.... :dunno:

If you log in to your account it should be an option to buy. Did you draw MS deer?

Yes he would have to buy it, because his regular tag is archery.

Yeah i drew multi deer, but i just left for alaska, wont be home for a month.  ill have to buy my multi deer when i get back, since i have to hand over my archery deer license to do so..  Right now there is no option on wdfw site to buy my 2nd deer tag.  But ive also noticed theres no option to buy a 2nd bear tag, which is odd.

If your not going to be back by the deadline you can call and they will cancel your archery tag and let you buy the multi over the phone or online. They ask you mail the archery tag in. You don’t have to do it at a dealer like they will try to get you to do.

I was able to get on and pay for my second deer tag just now. Seems like they are getting things slowly sorted.

Were you planning on buying the ms tag? If not it will save you some coin if you just shoot it with your bow.

Not worried about the coin.  id rather make it as quick and simple as possible.  Takes all the "make meat" pressure off of my late archery deer season.  With a rifle i feel i could run down and whack a doe in no time, and go on to other things, like cougar calling.

I don't think this would be true since the odds aren't the same for every weapon since for some areas they want more of a certain type.

You're applying for a specific gmu with a specific weapon.
