Armstrong and Saylean - Congrats. Had the tag in 2011. Took Chinook Pass Outfitters in for the hunt after backpacking in several trips in July and Aug and locating plenty of elk. Day two had close to 100 head of elk thunder over a saddle right to an open hillside above my buddy and I. At least 20+ bulls, 3-4 of which were at least 6x6. They were all spooked down into the dark timber by another hunter, but closed the gap on a bull that remained in a clump of trees. Could hear him but not see him. He came running down and into a small opening and skidded to halt 18 yrds in front of me when he saw me draw back. I arrowed that bull which turned out to be a 5x5. I had exactly 0.6 secs to see him and decide to shoot or not. Despite being into elk in July and Aug, when I arrived for the hunt I didn't see or hear an elk for 4 days before the opener. When I had that split second decision on the 5x5, I took it. My buddy never filled his tag. Great hunt. Still have my entire hunt prep journal. PM me if you have any questions. Chinook Pass Outfitters was worth every penny once that bull took a dirt nap.
This should get you excited.

A little horn porn to add into the mix. Wasn’t able to get any on the ground photos seems tho he tilted over directly onto a yellow jackets nest. Not all. He absolutely destroyed the hornets nest with his dying kicks. What a rodeo.
