Always been curious... 18.5" from where?  End of the chamber? Shoulder that the rim goes to? Could probably look this up on the Googlator, but, meh.....   :chuckle:

Typical idea these days is to mark dowel at 18.5 and have your barrel that length or longer from the closed bolt.

Yeah, do your homework as people have gone to prison by measuring the wrong way.  I have a 19" barrel for that reason and did plenty of research to make sure I was measuring the right thing.  The alternative is to buy a barrel, but I'm guessing those might be hard to come by lately.

The difference between 18.5 and 20" is negligible so I don see why you should get too stupid.  What does a new factory 18" barrel run these days anyway?

From my buckshot hunting coyotes I have to say that I wouldn't cut down a barrel.

In archery we have something like the way of the superior man. When the archer misses the center of the target, he turns round and seeks for the cause of his failure in himself.

Surprisingly you can still get them for $100-150 on Gunbroker now.  The better option may be to simply buy the extended mag you want and then cut to that length.  I think even 2-3 extra shells puts you well over 18" and I have never liked the look of a shotgun with a mag protruding beyond the muzzle.

I agree, the only use is defense, it's an interesting project if you want a shorty but your range is about 10 yards.

Magpul makes a pretty cool stock, more for looks than anything, but changes the look for sure. Actually now that I think about it, it could replace the wood stock and make the 870 more of a waterfowl gun if you were worried about the wood soaking in water after alot of exposure?

Ammo is hard to come by now and certain firearms are getting rare, but accessories and parts seem to be pretty well stocked.

I've always wanted to do an old Wingmaster police riot gun set up with wood stocks.

I bought this old junker from a guy on the board and added the Remington mag tube and sling.

I thought about refinishing the stock, but may just leave it as it’s an old Patrol from a local agency.

That looks like the perfect HD shotgun to me.

I was going to do some very minor load port work, follower and tritium front sight and call it good.

How many rounds does it hold?
