Turkey Idaho ?
« on: April 01, 2020, 06:47:38 PM »
Well with the possible close of WA Spring Turkey . My buddy who moved to Idaho last year is trying to coax me over.
You would think that was a plus. But him and I are total opposites on what we want from a hunt.

So here’s my questions.

Looks like a non resident could get turkey tag and hunt Lin. For a round $150.00. .?..

Anyone want to offer up possible tent camping spots? Unimproved spots. National forest, wildlife areas.

Do I need proof hunter Ed?

Not really into private property hunts or access fees.

Any info you care to offer.

Looks like Panhandle area. GMU 1,2,3,4,5, and 9

I texted my Dad last night after work and said Idaho was plan B for turkey. He wanted to know the cost for license and lodging. I'll be looking at the same camping options. I'll be watching the thread and post up if I find anything.

Do y'all not see this as a bad idea?

:yeah:

Everyone trying to come over and hunt during this pandemic is a bad idea that could end up closing down the hunting seasons over here and make Idaho natives hate Washington people even more. If you mention you're from Wa or they see license plates from WA, they will automatically hate you to begin with.

Look at Idaho Governors orders. Going on an out of state hunt isn't essential right now. IDFG doesn't want people to go to their offices either.

There are turkeys everywhere, but again it's not a good time to travel for fun.

I wouldn't be a bit surprised if Idaho closes all hunting and fishing in the next 2-3 weeks. They're about to explode with cases, probably worse than WA, and they know a lot of non-res WA people will be wanting to head their way for bear and turkey.

If I were Idaho I would shut the state down to non resident hunting through the summer and would seriously consider keeping it shut down this coming fall as well.
Pain is temporary, achieving the goal is worth it.

I didn't say it would be easy, I said it would be worth it.

 - Here are the fees, you can get a 3 day license or full year. https://idfg.idaho.gov/licenses/fees-nonresident#license

Anyone want to offer up possible tent camping spots? Unimproved spots. National forest, wildlife areas.
 - You can camp on any state land or anywhere in the national forest except campgrounds which are closed.

Do I need proof hunter Ed?
 - If you were born after Jan 1, 1975

Not really into private property hunts or access fees.
 - Lots of public ground all over Idaho

Any info you care to offer.
 - Unit 1, 3, 10a are probably the best numbers of birds in northern Idaho.

Looks like Panhandle area. GMU 1,2,3,4,5, and 9

I answered your questions for you. I just talked to IDFG yesterday, I was told that Governor Little has been committed to keeping recreation open. The only closures are Nat Forest campgrounds.

All y'all who are suggesting people don't go turkey hunting don't understand. Spring turkey hunting is our religion. Not going turkey hunting is sacrilege. You can't tell me me that any minimal service needs you have while turkey hunting like getting gas or groceries is any different than essential employees that potentially have the virus that stop at those exact same services for gas and groceries. In fact with most people quarantined, its really the essential employees still at work and out and about that are really the ones continuing the bulk of the spread. I'll be turkey hunting as usual on April 15th, even if I'm forced to go somewhere else.

We do understand but there are many of us that put the health and safety of other people before a hobby. Taking one season off, in the grand scheme of things, is a tiny sacrifice in my eyes. It could be the difference between a person living and a person dying and I don't take that responsibility lightly  :twocents:
