What made this hole?
« on: April 15, 2020, 06:28:58 PM »
This post is for my in-laws on the east side.  They have a place on the Columbia and found this burrow maybe 15 yards up the bank from the river.  The hole is roughly the width of a shovel.

What’s your best guess?  I have an idea but am betting many here know more.

Agreed with the badger comments. Had one dig a den on my property some years ago, always wondered what it was and then saw the badger run up the hill and dive in.

Pretty round for a badger hole. Probably a giant sand owl.

Just a few weeks ago I saw a fox coming in and out of a hole similar to the one posted. It was in a railroad embankment near the Ice Harbor dam.

Badger.
Brings back a fond memory. As kids we found a badger den and the plan was to drown him out and then the guy not pouring water would shoot him when he ran for cover.  :chuckle: We must of poured a couple hundred gallons of water down his hole...…..all it did was piss him off (you could hear him growling) but he never came out.  :(

Awesome, I'll tell him to try to flood it out.   :chuckle:

Only one way to find out. The catfish noodler folks do it all the time. Could be a gator or a snapper in one of those holes and they ain’t scared.
:fire.:

" In today's instant gratification society, more and more pressure revolves around success and the measurement of one's prowess as a hunter by inches on a score chart or field photos produced on social media. Don't fall into the trap. Hunting is-and always will be- about the hunt, the adventure, the views, and time spent with close friends and family. " Ryan Hatfield
