So when it comes to mushrooms, the mushrooms decide when opening day is... Yesterday, they decided!

What's the most reliable way to tell them apart from angel wings (Pleurocybella porrigens) that some say are mildly toxic? The research ive done seems most reliable way is that angel wings grow on conifers and oysters grow on hardwood.

He has not yet haha, you guys still eat the ones with worms in them?? I didn’t notice them until I dehydrated them... a bunch of dead ones in the bottom of the tray.... I’m not sure if there still good or not any input is greatly appreciated!
If you soak em in saltwater when you get em in the house I guess that is supposed to get rid of worms and bugs. It might make dehydration take a little longer, but I don't think oysters sponge up moisture as bad as some other species do? I usually rinse em under the sink and meticulously hit em with the brush end of my mushroom knife. We've just been cooking them as we find them and they stay good in the fridge for at least 1.5 weeks. They may last longer, but with a family of 5 they haven't made it longer than that. I keep meaning to dehydrate some, but I never do 🤷🏼‍♂️

Yes that's what I go by too. Oysters on hardwood (I've only ever seen on Alder in the PNW) and Angel Wings on conifer. The angel wings are daintier and not as meaty. I am pretty sure the Angel Wings primarily fruit in the fall too. I'm sure you probably already read, but the only case that I'm aware of, where folks had problems was one single group in South Korea that all ate them at the same time and they all happened to have the same rare kidney condition. What sucks though is it was fatal for them.

10-4 dehydrating is making most of them fall out, we will see how things go lol

I also want to try cooking them and then freezing them. I know folks do that with chantrelles, but we never seem to have leftovers. It's raining again so maybe I'll get some fresh ones here soon, and start working on my preservation game!

I guess so lol and yeah I did that last fall and brought a bunch to deer camp! Absolutely awesome with fresh backstrap!!!!
