Huckleberry unit
tracked this old lady all day I was positive this was a boar but a dry 185lb sow is good with me.
300yds 6.5 creed through the lungs and a pice of the heart she went less then 20 feet.
This was a challenging year I’m lucky to fill my tag.
Big Thankyou to the guy who helped me drag her out! You know who you are.

May 14 in 105 (Kelly Hill) in about the middle of the unit. Bear was at 2000 ft.
450 yard first shot which resulted in a broken leg....further than I thought.
Second two in the chest. Watched the death moans, which I hadn't done.
Older boar. Zero fat, not much meat with a nice coat.
He died in the thistle, but it was a fairly short pack. This was the 4th bear seen over seven days and the first one I shot at. Regret not shooting a cinnamon early in the hunt!

First Spring Bear draw and first bear period. Helluva way to get my feet wet with this big guy. Solo trip last weekend. Shot Sunday 6/7 ~9:00 AM @ ~3600 ft. in Huckleberry.

Got in Friday night, hunted Saturday, saw nothing. New area Sunday morning. I was heading down a draw filled with black stumps. Planning on setting up for some predator calling, stopped to look at my map to see where I should head to get set up. Phone had bad glare so I adjusted my stance and noticed out of my peripheral a black stump that was moving. Turns out it was this boar moseying up the draw toward me about 50 yards out. I was downwind in a good breeze so he couldn't smell me, not moving much so he couldn't hear me or, apparently, see me. Slowly took a knee and shouldered my rifle, hoping for him to turn broadside. Realized the draw was narrow and steep on both sides so he wasn't likely to turn. Didn't see any cubs and didn't want him to get any closer so I took the head-on shot (forehead) at ~45 yards with 12 gauge sabot slug (300 grain Winchester XP3 2&3/4" in Weatherby PA-08 rifled barrel with Nikon Shotgun Scope). Dropped where he stood. Couldn't have asked for a better outcome. Traeger BBQd backstrap was satisfying if not mind-blowing last night and breakfast sausage this morning was delicious.
