Outboard motor guys/ pull start motor: question?
« on: May 24, 2020, 08:10:15 PM »
Ran the new boat for the first time today. The motor is a Johnson 97 15HP. It runs great but every once in awhile. I will go to pull on the cord and there is nothing there just free spools to me and does not engage to crank the engine. I feed it back and fourth a few time then it will catch and fire right up.

Anyone have a idea for a fix for this?

Pull the recoil off and clean and lube

Sounds easy enough, what do y'all use for lube? I know that's a loaded question  :chuckle:

Honestly, I’d spray LPS or Triflow into every willing orifice and hope for the best.....

:yeah: You tube it! It's a centrifugal do Dad that catches and then releases.  Probably gummed up from special lubes of 97' time era.......... :chuckle:

Well, there is WD-40 and Duct Tape and for this application I would go with WD-40.
