The 6.5 and 300 PRCs are looking pretty good. Can they steer clear of the "manbun" taint?

Whoever thinks that the .308 caliber is too “vanilla” should do a bit of research on the US Military with that round in sniper rifles. One of the very few things in this world that needs no improvement or the “all new and improved for this year” moniker. Sometimes one of the original designs  are the best  ;)

I can kill a pony out to 400 easy with a .223. 😉

Awesome! What did you draw if I may ask? 22 points across the board here, but lots of "not selected". But the whiskey tastes sweet tonight😉

I used to shoot a 6.5 Carcano (almost 40 years ago). 160gr. bullets IIRC. It was a good little deer thumper. It got stolen.

30-06.  The most versatile hunting caliber.  Ammo is not an issue, neither is availability of rifle mfgs.

Between 3 of us we have 4 of these and they all shoot factory ammo lights out.  This is my woods carry, out to 400 slam dunk rifle.  Mine is 6.5cm, others have .243, .308 and 7mm 08.  I am shooting Sierra Game Changer 130s in mine and Id get a lot of  :o if I told you what it does at 200 yards.

Not at all. I would take a fast twist .243 Win and heavies over a 7mm-08 any day. That being said, pretty much anything will slay game under 400 yards. A .30 Cal would be a option, seeing you already shoot a .243 & a .277 bore. .308 is just so vanilla. Not much excitement there and your .270 Will walk all over a .308. 6.5 is a option but it is so close to the .270 and the heavies in a .243. The “Nitch” is just hard to fill. You may just need to up the horse power/ case capacity and pick your poison bore diameter wise.

Really doesn't make sense that you are endorsing 6.5 but have a problem with 7-08.

Out to 400 yards they are nearly identical but the 7-08 lets you use heavier bullets for bear or elk while the 6.5 is a better choice for long range target shooting.
